Here's where Morris/Sussex girls soccer teams rank as state postseason begins

The Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex trophy and Morris County Tournament plaques have been distributed.

Sophomore Riley Molbury was named HWS MVP as Sparta earned a measure of revenge in a 2-0 home victory against Hunterdon Central on Saturday. Later that night at Roxbury, Chatham picked up its third straight MCT title, 3-1, against Randolph.

Now, it's time for the NJSIAA Tournament. Girls soccer gets underway on Thursday around New Jersey.

But first, check out how county play impacted the Morris/Sussex Top 10.

10. Hanover Park (13-3)

Last week: Unranked

Senior Arianna Allonardo leads Hanover Park with 13 goals. The Hornets have reached at least a sectional final in every season since 2018. But they've got a challenging bracket, starting as the No. 8 seed in North 2 Group 2.

9. Madison (14-2)

Last week: No. 9

Madison rebounded from a MCT loss to Morris Knolls, and posted three straight wins – including back to back 1-0 shutouts – heading into North 2 Group 2. The second-seeded Dodgers will host No. 15 Harrison, with a potential second-round match against the West Morris-Morris Tech winner.

8. Pequannock (16-1)

Last week: No. 8

Pequannock, whose only loss came against Group 4 Morristown in the MCT on Oct. 11, earned the top seed in North 1 Group 1. Senior midfielders Alex Ortega (20g, 11a) and Shayla Osmanski (13g, 26a) have led the Golden Panthers to 87 goals, most of any Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference team. Junior Zoe Wizner and the back line have allowed only seven goals.

7. Morristown (12-4-3)

Last week: No. 7

Marin Fisher and Anna Szporn have scored 11 goals apiece. Junior Adelina Galea has a 1.12 goals-against average, allowing 17 goals. The NJAC's only Group 4 girls soccer team, Morristown earned the fourth seed and will host No. 13 Union City on Oct. 26.

6. Roxbury (9-3-2)

Last week: No. 6

Roxbury, the eighth seed in North 1 Group 3, heads into the postseason off a scoreless draw against Morristown and a 1-0 loss to Randolph. Senior goalkeepers Aislyn Rivera and Clara Donnelly have allowed just eight goals, second fewest in the NJAC.

5. Morris Knolls (13-7)

Last week: No. 4

Sixth seed Morris Knolls heads into North 1 Group 3 with losses in four of its last six matches, two against Chatham. Senior Scarlett Brookes (12g, 8a) and junior Charlee Perna (8g, 6a) lead the high-scoring Golden Eagles.

4. West Morris (8-4-3)

Last week: No. 5

West Morris will have to pull off a few upsets to defend its North 2 Group 2 title. But the Wolfpack, the No. 7 seed, is coming in off three straight wins – two by 1-0 shutout – including against new MCT champion Chatham. Freshman Georgia Hostler (5g, 5a), senior Lily Gjelsvik (5g, 3a) and junior Sofia Sardeira (4g, 4a) guide the balanced offense.

3. Randolph (16-2-2)

Last week: No. 1

Juniors Jojo Denegri (17g, 6a) and Rylie Van Wingerden (14g) guide the offense. The Rams head into the postseason with six wins in their last eight matches. They earned the fourth seed, and will host No. 13 Montville on Oct. 25.

2. Sparta (13-2)

Last week: No. 3

Senior midfielder Juliana Dolinski has 21 goals and 11 assists for Sparta, including two in the HWS final on Oct. 21. The Spartans' two losses came back to back against Chatham a month ago. Since then, they've had seven straight victories and earned the fifth seed in North 1 Group 3.

1. Chatham (14-2)

Last week: No. 2

Junior Abby Droner (15g, 4a) and sophomore Amanda Thornton (10g, 6a) lead Chatham's balanced scoring. The Cougars won their third straight MCT on Saturday, but will head into the NJSIAA Tournament off their first NJAC-American loss: 1-0 to West Morris on Oct. 24. Chatham is the top seed in North 2 Group 3, set up for a home-field run through the postseason.
