Here's the rundown on each local baseball team competing in the CIF-SS playoffs

The CIF-Southern Section baseball playoffs resume Friday afternoon, with three teams from the High Desert set for quarterfinal action.

Adelanto, the Desert Sky League champions, are the only area team with a home game.

Oak Hills, the Mojave River League champions, and Riverside Prep, the Cross Valley League champions, are both on the road with long bus rides.

Adelanto and Riverside Prep are both in Division 5 and could meet in the semifinals next week if both pull off victories Friday afternoon.

First pitch for all three quarterfinals games is set for 3:15 p.m. Here’s a brief look at all those matchups.

Division 4 — Oak Hills at Culver City

  • Be prepared to sit in heavy traffic. The Friday evening 86-mile commute back home from Culver City and up the Cajon Pass will be a long one for the Bulldogs and fans attending the game with a 3:15 p.m. start time.

  • Both teams are on hot streaks entering the quarterfinals. Oak Hills is currently on a 12-game winning streak, while Culver City has won 11 in a row.

  • Culver City entered the playoffs as ranked No. 4 in the Division poll, with Oak Hills right behind at No. 5.

  • According to MaxPreps.com, Culver City (24-4) is ranked 38th in the state, and has scored 166 runs while allowing 63 runs in 28 games this season. The Bulldogs (23-6) are ranked 121st in California, as they’ve scored 199 runs and allowed 83 runs in 29 games.

  • Both teams have faced Roosevelt this season. Oak Hills lost 5-0 on Feb. 17 and Culver City beat them 1-0 earlier this week to reach the quarterfinals.

  • If victorious, the Bulldogs will be home for the semifinals against Camarillo or Cerritos on May 14.

Division 5 — Riverside Prep at Pacifica

  • The Silver Knights have quite a 284-mile round trip from Oro Grande to Oxnard for the quarterfinals.

  • Riverside Prep entered the playoffs ranked No. 5 in Division 5, while Pacifica is right above at No. 4. MaxPreps rankings have Riverside Prep above Pacifica at 193rd in California. Pacifica is No. 218 in the state.

  • Riverside Prep has won nine games in a row and had a first-round bye to start the playoffs. Riverside Prep beat Segerstrom 5-3 to reach the quarterfinals.

  • Pacifica has a pair of 3-1 victories in the playoffs over Whitter Christian and Santa Paula.

  • Pacifica is 17-11-1 on the season and has scored 140 runs while allowing 102. Riverside Prep (22-6) has allowed just 57 runs in 28 games this season and scored 234.

  • Riverside Prep made the quarterfinals in 2022 and lost 8-5 to St. Bernard.

  • If victorious, Riverside Prep will be home for the semifinals on May 14 against Adelanto or on the road against Santa Monica.

Division 5 — Adelanto vs. Santa Monica

  • Adelanto has a tough matchup against the No. 1 ranked team in Division 5. The Saints are ranked No. 9.

  • According to MaxPreps, the Saints (21-9) are ranked 186th in California, having scored 168 runs and allowing 108 in 30 games this season. Santa Monica (19-7) is ranked No. 58th in the state. Santa Monica scored 87 runs and has allowed just 56 in 26 games.

  • Santa Monica beat Ganesha 3-2 to reach the quarterfinals, while Adelanto beat Trinity Classical Academy 5-3, which was ranked No. 8. Adelanto also beat Marshall 9-3 in the first round, while Santa Monica shutout Nogales 5-0.

  • If victorious, Adelanto will be on the road for the semifinals on May 14 against Riverside Prep or Pacifica.
