Here's a look at the top Savannah-area girls basketball players to watch in 2023-24

Basketball season tips off this week in Georgia, and fans are looking forward to another season of quality action in the girls' competition in the Greater Savannah area.

Calvary Day and Woodville-Tompkins are coming off strong seasons where they reached the state semifinals in Class 3A and Class 1A Division I.

Here's a look at the top returning girls players in the Greater Savannah area to keep an eye on this season.

Destini Gooddine, Calvary Day, jr., G

Gooddine was a top player in the Cavs run to the Class 3A Final Four last season. She averaged 14.6 points, 6.6 rebounds per game, 3.4 assists and 2.8 steals per game and was an All-Greater Savannah first-team selection.

Kayley Wedlow, Bryan County, sr., G

Wedlow earned Region 3-A Division I Player of the Year honors last season as she averaged  22.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 3.9 steals per game for a Bryan County squad that was second in the region tournament. She was an All-Greater Savannah first-team pick.

Brianna Pelote, Woodville-Tompkins, sr., C

Pelote is a force down low for the Wolverines, who won the Region 3-A Division I title last season on the way to a berth in the state semifinals. The 6-foot-2 center averaged 10.2 points, 9.1 rebounds, 3.6 blocks and 1.3 steals per game and was named the Region 3-A Division I Defensive Player of the Year, while earning All-Greater Savannah first-team honors.

Parris Parham, Bradwell Institute, jr., F

Parham had an impressive season to help lead the Tigers to the Class 5A state semis last year. She averaged 12.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.5 blocks per contest and was an All-Greater Savannah first-team selection.

Elena Hairston, South Effingham, sr., G

A first-team All-Region 2-6A selection last season, Hairston averaged 10.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 3.3 steals per game for the Mustangs

Ashanti Brown, Bryan County, jr., F

A first-team All-Region selection last season for Bryan County, Brown averaged 12.0 points, 12.3 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 1.6 blocks per game.

Stella Oleschig, Savannah Country Day, sr., G

Oleschig was a first-team All-Region 3-3A selection for the Hornets last season. She is expected to take on an even bigger role as a senior leader for the Hornets this season.

May Inyang, Richmond Hill, jr., G/F

Inyang was an All-Region 2-6A first-team selection last season, when the Wildcats reached the playoffs as the No. 4 seed out of the tough Region 1-7A.

Amayah Hamilton, Johnson, sr., F

Hamilton was an All-Region 3-3A second team selection last season when she averaged 10.8 points and 11.0 rebounds per game.

Bre Jones, Calvary Day, jr., G/F

Jones was a key contributor in her sophomore campaign for the Cavs as she averaged 9.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.8 steals per game. She was a second-team All-Greater Savannah selection.

Destiny Washington, Johnson, sr., G/F

Washington came on strong at the end of last season averaging 13 points and 12.3 rebounds per game.

Kyjana Jordan, Effingham County, jr. G

Jordan was a second-team All-Region 2-6A pick last season after averaging 13.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game.

Tatyana Anderson, Bradwell Institute, jr., G

Anderson earned All-Region first-team honors last season when she averaged 9.0 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.

Aziyria Phillips, Beach, sr., G

Phillips was a standout for the Bulldogs last season as she earned second-team All-Region 3-3A honors.

Mary Brit Tallevast, Savannah Christian, sr., G

Tallevast, also a standout setter for the Raider volleyball team, was a second-team all-region pick last year.

Jada Brown, Richmond Hill, jr. F

Brown is back after earning second team All-Region 2-6A honors last season.

Hayden Johanson, South Effingham, jr, G

Johanson could have a bigger role this season after earning honorable mention all-region honors last season.

MaKiyah Matthews, Richmond Hill, sr., PG

Matthews is back as a standout in the backcourt after earning second-team all-region honors last season.

Ja’Nya Bush, Bradwell Institute, soph., G/F

Bush was named the Region 1-5A Freshman of the Year last season when she averaged 5.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.4 assists per game.

Kaiya Bryant, Jenkins, sr., G

Bryant was a second-team Region 1-5A pick last year after averaging 7.8 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest.

Aniyah Browner, Jenkins, soph., G

Browner had an impressive freshman season, earning second-team all region honors.

Leila Williams, New Hampstead, jr., G

Williams was an All-Region 3-4A first team selection last season.

Mia Beranger, Groves, sr., G

Groves was an All-Region 3-3A pick last season for the Rebels.

Lyric McIver, Liberty County, jr., F/C

McIver averaged 5.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game last season, the most of any returning player for the Panthers, who went 19-9 last season and reached the Class 3A Sweet 16.

Alexis Ghaleb, St. Vincent’s, sr., G

Ghaleb returns after leading the Saints with 11.6 points per game and 4.6 rebounds per contest.

Molly Smith, Calvary Day, soph., G

Smith had a strong showing as a freshman averaging 6.2 points and 3.0 rebounds per game, while ranking tied for second in 3-pointers made on the team.

A.C. Davis, Savannah Country Day, sr., G

Davis is known for her grit and hustle and will be a key player in her senior year with the Hornets.

Trinity Meyers, Windsor Forest, sr., G

Meyers was an All-Region 3-2A selection last year when she averaged 10.3 points per game.

Rian Bailey, Woodville-Tompkins, sr., G

Bailey returns and is expected to have an expanded role after a second-team All-Region showing last season.

Ernajah Mallard, Savannah High, sr., G

Mallard is back after averaging 9.3 points per game and earning a first-team all-region selection as a junior.

Gray Holmes, St. Andrew's. jr., G

Holmes, who also stars for the Lion soccer team, is back as an important player in the backcourt for St. Andrew's.

Anna Cadle, Habersham School, sr., G

Cadle returns to the Patriots after an impressive junior year where she averaged 10.5 points and 2.5 assists per game.
