Hereford's Kalub Ramirez, Springlake-Earth's Taytum Goodman are Happy State Bank Athletes of the Week

Kalub Ramirez, Hereford, football

The Hereford Whitefaces entered last Friday winless on the season. They'd been blown out in most of their games and were facing the Randall Raiders, who already clinched a share of the district title.

Yet, it was the Whitefaces who came away with the victory and have Ramirez to thank for it. The freshman was sensational against Randall, completing 20-of-29 passes for 376 yards and five touchdowns against an outstanding defense.

Most importantly, he led Hereford to the win.

"Kalub did an outstanding job extending plays in the pocket and delivered some big throws downfield all night," Hereford coach Adam Naron said. "His awareness helped him to find open receivers and led us to a huge win to keep our playoff hopes alive."

Taytum Goodman, Springlake-Earth, cross country

There's dominating your competition and there's doing what Goodman did last week.

Goodman, a junior, led Springlake-Earth to a first-place finish last week at regional meet in Lubbock. She was also the first-place individual runner as she finished with a time of 11 minutes, 06.40 second.

To put into perspective how fast that is, the second-place finisher completed the race a minute and 44 seconds after Goodman did.

"Taytum is running strong right now," Springlake-Earth coach Jeri Paige Goodman said. "(She is) working hard."
