Heat’s Tyler Herro explains what Sixers are getting in Dewayne Dedmon

PHILADELPHIA–The Philadelphia 76ers made a move in the buyout market after the trade deadline when they went out and brought in Dewayne Dedmon on a deal for the rest of the season. He stands at 7 feet tall so he brings some much-needed size to the backup big man spot.

While Dedmon has yet to play for the Sixers due to left hip tightness, Philadelphia expects him to be able to bring toughness and a veteran presence to the bench unit. In 30 games with the Miami Heat, he averaged 5.7 points and 3.6 rebounds before being sent to the San Antonio Spurs in a deal and was waived.

With the Sixers taking on the Heat on Monday at home to begin a home-and-home series, Dedmon’s former teammate, Tyler Herro, was excited for him.

“That’s my guy, Dedmon!” exclaimed Herro. “That’s my dog. I’m sad he’s gone, but he’s another dude that’s just a good leader, a good teammate, a good leader in the locker room. He’s gonna help the Sixers for sure. He’ll definitely help.”

Time will tell when Dedmon will make his debut for the Sixers, but one has to figure that he will make some type of difference off the bench. While Paul Reed has been playing well as of late, the Sixers will need some experience and size in the playoffs and Dedmon has both.
