Haylee McGrew, Tate Foertsch are the Register's Iowa Ortho Athletes of the Week for Nov. 12-18
Ankeny girls wrestler Haylee McGrew and Bishop Garrigan football player Tate Foertsch were voted the Des Moines Register's Iowa Ortho female and male Athletes of the Week for Nov. 12-18.
McGrew won female Athlete of the Week with 58% of the vote. Algona girls wrestler Harley Tobin came in second with 34%.
McGrew was a force to be reckoned with at 155 during the Central Iowa Kickoff Girls Wrestling Tournament.
McGrew went 5-0 and scored a fall in every match to improve to 7-0 on the season and help Ankeny edge Raccoon River-Northwest for the Central Iowa Kickoff team championship. McGrew won her first four matches in 1:01 or less before pinning Earlham's Haley Glade in 5:01 during the championship match.
Foertsch won male Athlete of the Week with 74% of the vote. Van Meter football player Caleb Moore was second with 12%.
Foertsch delivered when his team needed him the most during the 8-player championship game against Bedford.
The Bishop Garrigan quarterback completed 7 of 10 passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns. He added 82 yards and one touchdown on the ground in leading Bishop Garrigan to a 39-30 victory.
