Harvin to seek another opinion on hip

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin will go to New York next week for a second opinion on his injured hip, according to reports on Friday.

Harvin is scheduled to meet with Dr. Bryan Kelly on Tuesday for a consultation. The initial diagnosis is a slight tear in Harvin's hip, ESPN reported.

There is a possibility that the injury might require surgery. The Seahawks placed Harvin, acquired in the offseason from the Minnesota Vikings, on the physically unable to perform list on Thursday before the start of training camp.

"We're going to go ahead and do it step by step right now," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. "I know he was working full speed just a few days ago, but we need to take care of him."

Harvin's 2012 season ended last Nov. 4 when he suffered an ankle injury with the Vikings.

"Percy has a hip issue that he's dealing with that came up over the summer. We're trying to figure it out. We're going to do everything we can to help him out, to make the right decision and take care of him in every way," Carroll said, according to ESPN.com.

"He was working out just a week or so ago going full speed, but it was bothering him enough we took some looks at it and we're going to try and figure out what the right procedures [are] to take care of him and get him back out on the field."

Harvin signed a six-year, $67 million contract extension ($25 million guaranteed) with the Seahawks during the offseason.
