Harbor Springs boys, girls sweep Boyne City; PHS hockey returns to the ice

BOYNE CITY — From cousins all around the gym, to uncles and aunts and grandparents in the stands, it was another one of those family reunion nights when the Boyne City and Harbor Springs boys basketball teams met up Friday night.

The family rivalry on the hardwood between Harbor’s Flynns and Boyne’s Neers has been a solid one for years now, but the bragging rights for the season were wrapped up when Harbor Springs captured a second win of the year in a 59-55 final.

Harbor also previously earned a 65-62 win over Boyne City in December.

Tied up in a 24-24 game at the break Friday, the two remained neck and neck until the end, with an 8 for 8 finish at the free throw line in the fourth quarter aiding the Rams in the end.

Aaron Sowles and the Harbor Springs boys came through with a third straight Lake Michigan win Friday, second straight over an area rival.

“Korbyn hit some big shots all game, Will (Webb) rebounded and made his free throws at the end. Angel (Delgado) did what he does best and worked really hard in the paint. Great win that was well earned by these guys.”
