Hammerhead swimmers compete at MAGS Championships in Holland
HOLLAND — It’s been a successful winter season in the pool for the Hammerhead Swim Club in Harbor Springs.
From state and regional competitions, to the most recent USA Michigan Age Group State (MAGS) Championship meet in Holland.
A total of 67 teams and 775 swimmers took part in the Holland event, which was broken into age groups of 13-14 and 11-12.
Competing for the Hammerheads in the 13-14 group included Owen Crook, Evangeline Rindfusz, Ellery Stevens and Addy Wiers, while the 11-12 group was made up of Hadley Corlew, Parker Edgerton, Parker Ford, Maeve Riley and Claire Wedge.
Notable finishes – and a few record breaking times – both came from Crook and Riley on the day.
Riley scored 78 points for the day, medaling in each even her took part in.
She placed fourth in the 100 IM (individual medley), fifth in the 100 fly and 50 fly, sixth in the 100 breast and eighth in the 50 breast.
Riley also earned qualifying times in the 50 and 100 fly for the Speedo Sectionals/Zones in Indianapolis. Her times go 1:06.01 and 28.46 in the events, respectively, set new Hammerhead Club records as well.

Crook also had a strong day with 28 points behind an eighth place finish in the 100 back, ninth in the 200 back and 11th in the 200 IM. Crook also set a new Hammerhead record in the 400 IM in 4:37.53.
Wiers also came through with a 13th place finish in her 400 IM race.
The MAGS Championships concluded the season for the Hammerheads, though in late February and early March, many claimed MTSL State Championships as well from the 8-and-under group and up to the 15-18 age group.

Those included: Lincoln Edgerton (50 breast); Wesley Frentz (50 butterfly); Karina Larkin (100 IM, 50 free); Maeve Riley (100 IM, 50 butterfly); Alana Springborn (50 back); Addy Wiers (200 free, 500 free); Owen Crook (200 free, 500 free, 100 back); and Annika Gandhi (100 free, 100 breast). The age 9-10 200 free relay team of Yul Springborn, Canon Byma, Lincoln Edgerton and Wesley Frentz also won.
The Hammerheads finished in second place as a team behind the Midland Dolphins at Saginaw Valley State University with 39 swimmers.
