H.S. Football Preview: A closer look at Millersport

MILLERSPORT - The high school football season gets underway in less than two weeks in what should be another exciting year.

With the Ohio High School Athletic Association expanding the playoffs to 16 teams in each region qualifying for the postseason, there is an excellent opportunity for even more to qualify this year. The playoffs will begin on Oct. 27.

Coach Treinish’s take: “The start of this football season will be year three after the Lakers brought the football program back after a five-year hiatus. In 2022, a large class of 12 freshmen showed up and worked hard to prepare for a season of Friday night showdowns. Seven freshmen started at least seven games on one side of the ball and five started on both sides of the ball. They stuck it out and kept getting up and coming back to the game. That experience, both physically and mentally, has paid off as they look more like varsity football players. There is a lot of growth to happen yet, but they are on their way.”

What to expect: No in the third season of a rebuild after not having football for five years, the Lakers are hoping for the players who stuck out the last couple of years will pay off. They return 13 letter-winners, but more than that, just the overall experience should enable them to be more competitive and get on the winning side of things.
