Who is the H.S. Athlete of the Week for April 22-28?

Another week of the spring high school sports season has come and gone in the Greater Taunton area.

Last week, a Taunton freshman and a Dighton-Rehoboth senior continued their hot streaks at the plate in softball while Taunton baseball earned a solid win over Attleboro, Dighton-Rehoboth baseball held off a resurgent Apponequet squad, a few local relay teams scored wins at the MSTCA Relays, including a new school record time, a Dighton-Rehoboth girls lacrosse player reached a career milestone, Taunton boys lacrosse earned a non-league win over New Bedford and Bridgewater-Raynham boys and girls tennis both swept Brockton.

The Taunton Daily Gazette Athlete of the Week for April 15-21 is Bridgewater-Raynham baseball's Shamus Barrett, receiving 33% of the vote. In one of the closest polls in recent memory, Taunton baseball's Caden Lindskog finished second with 32.5% of the vote, falling seven votes short of Barrett. Taunton softball's Aniyah Bailey received 15% of the vote to finish third.

Brady Morin, Taunton

Morin tossed a seven inning shutout giving up just a hit while striking out eight against Attleboro.

Shamus Barrett, Bridgewater-Raynham

Barrett went 1-for-2 with a pair of runs off a triple against Brockton.

Zach Branco, Bristol-Plymouth

Branco went 4-for-5 with an RBI off a walk-off single against Southeastern.

Ben Miller, Dighton-Rehoboth

Miller tossed a complete game shutout giving up a hit and a pair of walks while striking out 11 and going 1-for-3 with an RBI at the plate against Greater New Bedford.

Softball

Aniyah Bailey, Taunton

Bailey went 3-for-3 with three runs and seven RBIs off a pair of home runs, including a mercy rule-enacting two run shot, against Attleboro.

Olivia Roy, Bridgewater-Raynham

Roy had a triple, a run and three RBIs against Brockton.

Isabella Torres, Bristol-Plymouth

Torres went 2-for-3 with a run and a pair of RBIs against Southeastern.

Lucy Latour, Dighton-Rehoboth

Latour went 4-for-5 with three runs and eight RBIs off of three home runs against Bourne.

Boys Lacrosse

Shane Lynds, Taunton

Lynds had a pair of goals against New Bedford.

Jayson Kelleher, Bridgewater-Raynham

Kelleher had a hat trick against Whitman-Hanson.

Jaiden Solitro, Dighton-Rehoboth

Solitro had six goals and seven assists against Somerset Berkley.

Girls Lacrosse

Maddi Szala, Taunton

Szala had four goals, four assists and two draws against Sharon.

Emily Keefe, Bridgewater-Raynham

Keefe had five goals and a pair of assists against Barnstable.

Karina Bosco, Dighton-Rehoboth

Bosco had six goals, including her 200th career goal, three draws and a pair of assists against Somerset Berkley.

Boys Tennis

Matt Klayman and Jack Buffington, Taunton

The duo won second doubles 6-4, 3-6, 10-5 against Durfee.

Banks Beckwith, Bridgewater-Raynham

Beckwith won first doubles against Brockton.

Girls Tennis

Ava Alves, Taunton

Alves won third singles 6-1, 6-0 against Attleboro.

Nicole Kimball, Bridgewater-Raynham

Kimball won first singles 6-0, 6-0 against Brockton.

Boys Track and Field

Ancil Alexander, Taunton

Alexander won the discus with a top throw of 50.03 meters and finished third in the shot put with a top throw of 15.13 meters at the MSTCA Division 1 Relays.

Riley Frisch, Dan Leet, Cole Bridges and Ryan Hall, Bridgewater-Raynham

The 4x800 meter relay team won with a time of 8:17.48 at the MSTCA Division 2 Relays.

Matthew Suprenard, Joel DaSilva, William Dalton and Evan Thibert, Dighton-Rehoboth

The 4x200 meter relay team won with a school record time of 1:32.05 at the MSTCA Division 5 Relays.

Girls Track and Field

Sophia Olaniyan, Taunton

Olaniyan finished third in the discus with a top throw of 31.7 meters at the MSTCA Division 1 Relays.

Alisha Gomes, Brenna Woodbury, Camden Strandberg and Lily Giurleo, Bridgewater-Raynham

The 4x400 meter relay team finished third with a time of 4:11.29 at the MSTCA Division 2 Relays.

Mari Lavigne, Dighton-Rehoboth

Lavigne won the javelin with a top throw of 33.05 meters at the MSTCA Division 5 Relays.

Boys Volleyball

Travis Johnson, Taunton

Johnson had 15 kills, three digs and a pair of blocks against Barnstable.

Ian Hoskins, Dighton-Rehoboth

Hoskins had 23 kills against Durfee.
