Gus Yalden thanks Badgers fans, says he looks forward to returning to basketball team

Wisconsin freshman forward Gus Yalden plans to transfer.

MADISON – One day after University of Wisconsin officials announced Gus Yalden was taking a leave of absence from the men’s basketball team, the freshman shared his thoughts on social media.

Yalden stated Thursday he plans to eventually return to the team.

“I want to say thank you Badger Nation for all the love and support,” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “This is what makes Wisconsin a truly special place, and I couldn’t be happier to call it my home.

“I’m extremely grateful to have this much-needed time with my family, and I appreciate the continued support from Coach Gard, the rest of the staff, my teammates, and support staff.

“Playing for Wisconsin has been a goal and dream of mine since I was a kid and I’m looking forward to seeing Badger Nation at the Kohl Center soon. On, Wisconsin!”

UW is scheduled to open the season at 7 p.m. Monday night against visiting Arkansas State.
