Mendham, Morris Knolls freshman earn NJAC girls golf titles by single strokes
ANDOVER TOWNSHIP — Annika Miocevich got a little nostalgic playing her last hole at the Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference Championships on Wednesday morning.
"This is the last time I'm taking a drive. This is the last time swinging this club in high school competition," said Miocevich, a Mendham senior. "Everything lined up perfectly."
The Minutemen edged Morris Knolls by one stroke to capture the team title at Farmstead Golf & Country Club. About a month ago, the Golden Eagles had won a playoff to capture the Morris County Tournament in the team's first season.
Morris Knolls freshman Olivia Gaglione shot an 8-over 42 to claim the individual title. Junior Maya Burton, who plays on Morristown's coed golf team, was second with a 43, one ahead of Villa Walsh freshman Rebekah Saxon (44) and Pope John freshman Deanna Mastrolacasa (45).
Three-time NJAC and MCT champion Sammie Dolce, a Morris Tech alumna from Florham Park, is now the No. 2 player at Bowling Green State University.
"It was tough. I didn't play great but I tried my best," Gaglione said. "Bogey golf all day, which works. It's just not preferred."

The NJAC, which includes most Morris and Sussex county schools plus Hackettstown and North Warren, began sponsoring girls golf in 2018 at the request of Villa Walsh athletic director Jen Fleury. At the time, there was one division with nine teams.
All 19 NJAC teams participated on Wednesday – counting the top three scores – with golfers from 26 schools altogether.
Burton had a quick turnaround, heading about 45 minutes southeast to play in Morristown's junior varsity match against Delbarton.
"The pace is different, a little bit slower than your average match," she said of playing with girls. "You've got to keep your mentality central. But the girls are so nice."
