Recap: Grizzlies come back from down 19, extend winning streak to 11 games vs Spurs

A 19-point deficit had the Memphis Grizzlies in danger of losing and ending their 10-game win streak against the San Antonio Spurs.

Suddenly, a 17-0 Grizzlies run flipped the game in Memphis' direction. Contributions from Ziaire Williams, Derrick Rose, Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. helped spark a Grizzlies 120-108 comeback win on the road Saturday.

Bane kept the Grizzlies in the game early when the Spurs (3-10) constantly threatened to put it away. He had 16 points in the first half.

The Grizzlies (3-9) trailed by double digits in the third quarter until Rose sparked a run and made a 3-pointer to end the third quarter that got Memphis within seven points. Williams and Jackson put the Spurs away for good.

Fourth quarter

Final: Grizzlies 120 Spurs 108

Third quarter

End of third quarter: Spurs 94, Grizzlies 87

The Grizzlies have fought back to make it a single-digit game after trailing by as many as 19 points. Memphis outscored San Antonio 36-26 in the third quarter. Derrick Rose and Ziaire Williams each gave the Grizzlies a spark off the bench. Williams has 10 points, and Rose is up to nine.

Second quarter

Halftime: Spurs 68, Grizzlies 51

Desmond Bane leads the Grizzlies with 16 points, but the difference so far has been free throws. Memphis had made eight of its 12 attempts, but the Spurs are shooting 19-for-23 at the free-throw line. Four of the five Grizzlies starters have committed three fouls.

First quarter

End of first quarter: Spurs 35, Grizzlies 26

Desmond Bane leads the Grizzlies with 10 points, but he has two early fouls. Memphis is shooting 45%, and the Spurs are making 48% of their shots. Spurs sharpshooter Cedi Osman has 10 points off the bench.

Early foul trouble for Grizzlies

3:42 left: Memphis is without Xavier Tillman Sr. in the frontcourt rotation, so foul trouble is the last thing the Grizzlies need. Jaren Jackson Jr. and Bismack Biyombo have already picked up two fouls each and went to the bench. Kenneth Lofton Jr. is currently in at center. The Grizzlies are trailing 28-21.

7:56 left: The Spurs lead 18-11 behind a strong offensive start. San Antonio has found success with 6-foot-9 forward Jeremy Sochan being defended by 5-9 Grizzlies point guard Jacob Gilyard. San Antonio has made five of its first six shots.

Grizzlies make starting lineup change

With Marcus Smart out, the Grizzlies are inserting John Konchar into the starting lineup. Derrick Rose is also making his return after missing the past 11 games, but he will come off the bench. Jacob Gilyard remains the starting point guard.

Grizzlies vs Spurs live updates

The Memphis Grizzlies had three days off and two practices at home before heading to San Antonio for the final contest in a three-game road trip. Memphis will play the Spurs (7 p.m. Bally Sports Southeast) on the first leg of a back-to-back.

Having those extra days of practice in between games should serve the Grizzlies' injury-riddled roster well. Marcus Smart and Luke Kennard both left the last game on Tuesday against the Lakers. Neither will play against the Spurs.

Jacob Gilyard, John Konchar, Ziaire Williams and David Roddy are among the player in line for increased roles. The Grizzlies (2-9) also could get Derrick Rose back. He's listed as questionable as the team determines if he'll play on the first or second leg of the back-to-back.

The Spurs (3-9) have generated buzz behind the addition of No. 1 overall draft pick Victor Wembanyama. Many scouts consider the 7-foot-4 forward a generational prospect.

San Antonio is on the second leg of back-to-back after losing a 129-120 battle to the Sacramento Kings on Friday.

Memphis has won 10 consecutive matchups against the Spurs. That's the second-longest streak behind San Antonio's 21-game win streak in the series from 1997-2002.
