Great competition on a cold night

It may have been a cold night on Wednesday, but the competition was great at the Unified Track Meet at Elkhart’s Rice Field.

Tumarye Morris and Colin Krempec were each heat double winners for Elkhart in the meet, which featured teams from Jimtown, Penn, South Bend Adams South Bend Riley and the host Lions.

Morris came away with first place finishes in the shot put (heat one) and 100 meters (heat two), while Krempec accomplished that feat in the long jump (heat one) and 400 meters (heat one).

Other heat winners for the Lions were Leland Hedrick (shot put), Aron Carillo Aviles (shot put), Owen Marks (long jump), Digna Quintanilla (long jump), Damian Guerrero Gomez (100), Addison Leseure (100), Becka Harringer (100), Samantha Cronkite (100), Tommy Asbury (400), Raeya Metcalf (400), Aliyah Sledge (400) and Hayden Dinehart (400)

This is the first year for Jimtown to have Unified Track. Elkhart Memorial won a state title in Unified Track in 2018.

Unified Track combines athletes with and without intellectual disabilities and those athletes compete together in traditional track and field events.
