Granite Hills’ Eric Poindexter is the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week

There were 15,896 votes cast this week in the race for the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week poll winner.

Granite Hills’ Eric Poindexter ended with 43.58% of total votes cast by Daily Press readers.

The star tennis player received 6,928 votes, beating out nine other high school athletes from across the High Desert. He’s the first student from Granite Hills to be voted Athlete of the Week this school year.

To earn a spot on this week’s ballot, Eric captured the Desert Sky League title for the fourth consecutive season. At the DSL Finals, hosted by Granite Hills on April 24, Eric swept Silverado's Christian Sauceda with two bagels to earn the crown. He also beat Adelanto’s Angel Valdovinos (6-1, 6-0) in the semifinals.

In the voting, Eric beat out Oak Hills’ Keith Williams, who ended with 26.68% at 4,241 total votes.

The nominees were selected based on performances between April 22-27.

Nominations are based on information available to the Daily Press. All high school varsity players from the High Desert can be considered for the ballot.

Nominations must be received for consideration by Sunday morning following that week's games. Anyone can nominate an Athlete of the Week for every varsity sport.
