Grand finale: Tallahassee Democrat unveils 2023 spring All-Big Bend teams
The 2022-23 Big Bend Preps season ends this week as the Tallahassee Democrat unveils its All-Big Bend spring teams.
More than 100 athletes are recognized across seven different sports, with 17 different honored as the best in their sport. The nearly two-month process, managed by Florida State beat writer Jack Williams, prep sports reporter Liam Rooney and photojournalist Alicia Devine, continues a nearly 50-year-long Tallahassee area tradition.
Photoshoots were conducted over two days, featuring Athletes of the Year, illuminated in their school's colors and "breaking the news" through a unique backdrop. The backdrop, made up of nearly 100 sports pages from the Democrat's print issue, took Williams and Devine three days to create by hand.
The backdrop has been used for All-Big Bend fall and winter series this year.
The All-Big Bend spring series will kick off on Friday, June 9 with beach volleyball and conclude Sunday, June 18, with baseball. The stories will be published online for subscribers. Here is the print publishing schedule.
