Goodhue's run in state boys basketball tournament ends with loss in consolation round

Mar. 22—ST. PAUL — Goodhue saw its run in the Class 1A boys basketball state tournament come to an end on Friday with a 68-54 loss to Heritage Christian Academy in the consolation bracket semifinals.

Goodhue had lost to Fertile-Beltrami in the state quarterfinals on Thursday. The Wildcats close play at the state tournament 0-2 and finish the season 18-15.

The Wildcats got off to a great start and led 18-6 just seven minutes into the game. They were still up 29-27 at the half but Heritage Christian (22-8) was too tough over the final 18 minutes.

The game was still close as Goodhue trailed just 57-54 with three minutes to play. But the Wildcats would not score again as Heritage Christian closed the game with an 11-0 run to pull away. The final 11 points were all scored on free throws.

Abu Tarawallie led Heritage Christian with 21 points and 13 rebounds and he was 9-for-9 at the line. Heritage Christan made 26 of 35 free throws was Goodhue was 6-for-9 at the line.

Eighth-grader Alex Loos hit four 3-pointers and he paced Goodhue with 18 points while pulling down five rebounds. Sophomore Luke Roschen had a double-double with 15 points and 10 assists and he chipped in with four rebounds and three steals.

Sophomore Michael Roschen had eight points for the Wildcats while senior Gavin Schafer led the team with six rebounds.

Heritage Chritian will play in the fifth-place game at 8 a.m. Saturday at Concordia University in St. Paul.
