Going for Gold. Bucks County area athletes took top billing in wrestling, swimming & track

The postseason continued last week with district and state championships in wrestling, swimming and indoor track. Check out the best postseason performances from Feb. 19-25 here, and be sure to check out the top performances in playoffs basketball as well.

Then, cast your voted for the finals Boys Athlete of the Week and Girls Athlete of the Week.

Top Performances from the PTFCA 2024 Indoor Track State Championships:

Destini Smith, Souderton

The junior had an excellent weekend with three top finishes. She took third in the girls triple jump (38-4), fifth in the high jump (5-3) and 16th in the long jump (17-1.5).

Mimi Duffy, CB West

The senior had two top finishes racing against the best in the state. She took second in the girls 200-meter dash with a time of 24.59 and fourth in the 400-meter run in 56.50, both season best times.

Gwen Hamilton, Archbishop Wood

The sophomore took second place in the girls 800-meter run, finishing in 2:08.17.

Ashley Landis, Pennridge

The junior took eighth place in the girls 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.03.

Riley Rooney, CB South

She finished sixth in the girls mile run, crossing the finish line in 5:03.96.

Madison Gee, North Penn

She took fifth place in both the girls long jump (18-.5) and the triple jump (38.2-25).

Trip Campbell, North Penn

He finished fourth in the boys high jump, clearing 6-4.

Will Palopoli, La Salle

The senior took sixth place in the boys 3,000-meter run with his time of 8:41.28.

Matthew Gorman, Conwell-Egan

The senior finished seventh in the boys 3,000-meter run, crossing the finish line in 8:45.17, a season-best time.

Anthony Conrey, Conwell-Egan

He took eighth place in the boys long jump with his 21-9.25 leap.

Aidan Maue, Souderton

The senior finished ninth in the boys 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:47.88.

Luke Coleman, Abington

The senior finished fourth in the boys 400-meter run with a speedy 48.85 finish.

Peter Murray, Abington

The senior took seventh place in the boys 800-meter run, running a season-best 1:55.28.

Tyrus Bush, Pennsbury

The junior placed 13th in the boys 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 50.03.

Thomas Cherian, Pennsbury

The senior’s 21-7.25 mark in the long jump was good for ninth place.

Brady Ott, Council Rock North

He placed 13th in the boys mile run, crossing the finish line in 4:20.06.

Grace Nesbitt, Neshaminy

The freshman won the 100-pound title, going 3-0 with all three wins by fall, improving to 19-0 on the season.

Julia Horger, Conwell-Egan

The sophomore won the 106-pound championship, going 3-0 with a pair of pins, and improving to 18-0.

Savannah Witt, Palisades

The junior won the 118-pound title, going 3-0 and improving to an impressive 27-0 on the season.

Caroline Hattala, Quakertown

The sophomore pinned her finals opponent in 1:09 to secure the 190-pound title and improve to 25-0.

MacKenna Atkinson, Souderton

The sophomore finished second in the 235-pound championships, winning her first two matches by pin before the finals match, where she was up against a defending state champion.

Top Performances from PIAA Boys Wrestling District Tournaments:

Dominic Parenti, La Salle

The junior won the 114-pound title at the District 12 Class 3A championships, going 3-0 with three pins, all of which were in 1:50 or under.

Noah Ruibal, La Salle

The junior won the 139-pound title at the District 12 Class 3A championships, pinning all three of his opponents in the tournament.

Charlie Arobone, Souderton

The senior won the 121-pound title at the District One North Class 3A tournament, going 3-0 with two wins by fall.

Chris Dennis, CB West

He won the 133-pound title at the District One South Class 3A tournament, securing the championship with an 18-second pin in the finals, which was the quickest win by fall in the tournament.

Jack Baron, Germantown Academy

The sophomore placed third at 113 pounds at the National Prep School wrestling championships.

Dom Morrison, Hatboro-Horsham

The freshman won the 107-pound title at the District One South Class 3A tournament, going 3-0 with two pins.

Christopher Staub, Hatboro-Horsham

He won the 145-pound championship after pinning his finals opponent in 1:41 in the District One South Class 3A tournament.

Reagan McCullough, CB East

He took home the 215-pound title at the District One East Class 3A tournament, pinning his opponent in 1:05 in the finals match.

Bek Sadriddinov, Council Rock South

The senior won his third PIAA District One East Class 3A wrestling tournament title, securing the 172-pound championship with a pair of pins and a major decision.

Cael Weidemoyer, Faith Christian

He went 3-0 with three wins by fall, and pinned his finals opponent in 0:47 to win the 160-pound title at the District One/12 Class 2A tournament.

Colin Walther, Conwell-Egan

The freshman won the 127-pound title at the District One/12 Class 2A tournament, pinning his opponent in 0:26 in the championship finals match.

Top Performances at the PIAA District One Swimming Class 2A, Class 3A Championships:

Gavin Egan, Holy Ghost

The sophomore won the 200 IM with his time of 2:00.71, and placed fourth in the 100 freestyle (49.52) at the Class 2A championships.

Mason Potts, North Penn

The senior Salisbury University commit finished second in the 100 freestyle (45.02) and second in the 100 butterfly (48.59) in the Class 3A championships.

Connor Mangan, Central Bucks West

The senior earned a pair of silver medals finishing second in the boys 500 freestyle (4:36.89) and the 200 freestyle (1:41.62) at the Class 3A championships.

Derek Feldman, Central Bucks West

The junior finished second in the 50 freestyle (20.90) and third in the 100 freestyle (45.89) at the Class 3A finals.

Alex Burns, North Penn

The senior took third place in both the 200 freestyle (1:42.79) and the 500 freestyle (4:39.11) in Class 3A.

Annie Jia, Hatboro-Horsham

The junior Berkeley recruit had quite the day at the girls Class 3A championships, taking home two individual golds. She won the 100-yard butterfly (53.83) and the 200 IM (2:02.06) as well as two relay races.

Maddie Faikish, North Penn

The junior won the girls 200 freestyle with her time of 1:49.0 and finished second in the 500 freestyle (4:52.84).

Ella McManus, Gwynedd Mercy

The senior was the winner of the girls Class 2A 500 freestyle (5:20.75), and took second place in the 200 freestyle (1:58.84).

Sarah Parker, Hatboro-Horsham

The junior won a pair of silver medals, finishing second in the Class 3A girls 50 freestyle (23.20) and second in the 100 freestyle (50.98).
