Girls tennis roundup: Benson/KMS prevails over LQPV/D-B

Sep. 12—BENSON — Going a perfect 3-0 in doubles, the Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg girls tennis team notched a victory Tuesday.

Hosting Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd at Benson High School, the Braves won 5-2.

Addi DeToy and Teagan Froelich overcame a first-set loss to pick up a key win at No. 2 doubles. The Benson/KMS pair came back to beat the Eagles' Alexis Olesen and Maya Virji, 4-6, 6-2, 10-8. The Braves' pairings of Elise Duncan and Kya Oakes and Meagan Anders and Ella McGinty won in two sets at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles.

The two teams split singles play. Elle Kletscher and Ava Oakes picked up wins for the Braves at Nos. 1 and 3. Kayla Jahn and Elsie Wiebe were winners for LQPV/D-B at Nos. 2 and 4.

Benson/KMS plays host to MACCRAY at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Benson. LQPV/D-B faces Morris/Chokio-Alberta/West Central Area at 4 p.m. Thursday at Morris.

Led by a victory in a top-10 matchup, eighth-ranked (Class A) Osakis swept Litchfield in Osakis.

At No. 1 singles, the Silverstreaks' Leah Maddock beat the Dragons' Isla Dille 6-1, 6-0. Maddock is ranked seventh in Class A while Dille is ninth.

Osakis also clinched a pair of three-set wins in doubles.

Litchfield takes on New London-Spicer at 4 p.m. Thursday at New London.

At No. 1 doubles, the Jaguars' Andrea Douvier and Ellan Fischer beat Alayna Neal and Emma Zaun in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 11-9.

BBE plays host to Long Prairie-Grey Eagle at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Belgrade.

At No. 1 doubles, the Lakers' Megan Thorfinnson and Alia Randt won 6-0, 6-0. That was followed up at No. 2 doubles as Addy Heid and Katy Vold also won 6-0, 6-0.

Minnewaska takes on MACCRAY at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Clara City. YME plays Melrose at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Granite Falls.

With Addie Plagge and Iris Donner winning a marathon match at No. 2 doubles, MACCRAY edged host Sauk Centre.

Plagge and Donner beat the Mainstreeters' Lydia Peterson and Ellen Rick by winning a pair of tiebreakers in a 7-6 (6-3), 7-6 (6-4) victory.

Tayte Nokleby and Greta Meyer added wins for the Wolverines at Nos. 1 and 2 singles. Alex Dirksen and Ella Kienitz picked up a victory at No. 1 doubles.

MACCRAY plays host to Minnewaska at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Clara City.
