Girls lacrosse: Vote for the Player of the Week

The regular season is winding down in girls lacrosse but, clearly, fans' appreciation of players is not.

Last week, with coaches having nominated 15 athletes, Journal News/lohud readers cast 42,108 online votes for Player of the Week.

Fox Lane sophomore Zoe Stonecipher, who netted 14 goals over three wins, including her 100th goal on varsity, captured the honor with 9,344 votes.

Tuckahoe's Elizabeth Halloran was runner-up with 6,273 votes.

This week, coaches have nominated 14 athletes for their May 1-7 play.

Ella Bamberger, New Rochelle

The senior, who played both midfield and defense last week, scored once against Fox Lane, had two goals as New Rochelle notched its first win of the season in a game vs. Eastchester and also scored once against Croton. While playing midfield, she beat opponents to secure multiple balls off the draw and, on defense, she caused several turnovers in all three games. She also won the race to get 10 ground balls over the three-game span.

Anna Becker, Bronxville

The senior midfielder totaled six goals, had one assist and won the race to gain possession of seven balls off draws during games against New Canaan, Suffern and Rye.

Ashley Cindrich, North Salem

The freshman attacker played a big role, totaling 10 points, beating opponents to 10 ground balls and causing four turnovers in wins over Carmel and Hastings. Against Carmel, she scored four times and had two assists and against Hastings, she had two goals and two assists.

Kate Frae, Clarkstown South

The junior midfielder registered 11 points over three games and also got eight ground balls. In an 11-9 loss to North Rockland, Frae scored, had two assists, got two balls off the draw and another two ground balls and caused the Red Raiders to turn the ball over twice. In a 19-13 win over Sleepy Hollow Frae had two goals and three assists, won four ground balls and another two balls off the draw and caused the Headless Horsemen to turn the ball over twice. And in an 11-8 setback to Scarsdale, she had two goals and an assist, grabbed two loose balls, won one ball off the draw and forced Scarsdale into a turnover.

Jillian Fullick, North Rockland

The senior midfielder scored 13 times as the Red Raiders won two of three games last week.

Michaela Kaltsas, Fox Lane

The freshman attacker netted 11 goals and had two assists over three games. She poured in five goals and had one assist against Greenwich, scored twice against Horace Greeley and had four goals and one assist vs. New Rochelle.

Sabrina Katz, Scarsdale

The junior attacker came up big in all three Raider games last week. She had a pair of goals and three assists against Harrison, had a hat trick and an assist vs. Rye and poured in five goals and had three assists against Clarkstown South for a 17-point week.

Brooke Koffler, Hackley

The sophomore attacker had two assists and scored six times in a win over Holy Child. Her goals included her 100th through 103rd during two seasons on the Hornet varsity squad. She also beat Holy Child to six balls off the draw and to eight loose balls. Koffler leads her team in goals with 59 this season and in securing balls off the draw with 74.

Melina Kohilakis, Blind Brook

The senior attacker, a huge part of Blind Brook's offense, had 12 goals over the course of two wins over Tuckahoe and one win over Valhalla, both league opponents. Against Tuckahoe, she scored eight times and had three assists and she scored four times against Valhalla.

Emily Maloney, Clarkstown North

The senior midfielder scored 14 goals over the course of three games last week to surpass 150 goals for her varsity career. The Campbell University commit netted three goals in the Rams' 7-6 loss to Suffern. She then put in five goals in a win over Paramus before pouring in six goals, against Mahopac including the overtime game-winner.

Nicolle Palacios, Ossining

The junior defenseman put herself in the right place at the right time over and over and also used her speed to intercept eight passes in Ossining's 17-3 win over Yonkers.

Gina Perillo, Mahopac

The junior defenseman played shutdown D in two games last week. In a win over Lakeland/Panas, she caused two turnovers and won the race to get two loose balls. And in a one-goal loss to Clarkstown North, Perillo secured three ground balls and caused the Rams to turn the ball over three times.

Shawn Rosenblatt, Mamaroneck

The senior attacker had a 17-point week as the Tigers went 2-1. In a 12-11 win over Pelham, she poured in seven goals and had two assists. In a 5-4 win over Ursuline, she had a pair of goals and an assist and in a 14-7 loss to No. 1-ranked John Jay-Cross River, Rosenblatt had a hat trick and two assists.

Mali White, Rye

The junior midfielder, who's committed to play for Davidson College, had a total of seven goals, won the race to secure six balls off draws, grabbed two loose balls and caused opponents to turn the ball over twice iduring league wins over Scarsdale and Bronxville.
