Girls basketball: Wild week shakes up North Jersey Top 25 rankings

Who’s ready for a ride on the merry-go-round?

Immaculate Heart’s 42-41 victory over Teaneck last Thursday was the latest in a string of results that have upset the balance of the North Jersey girls basketball Top 25 rankings.

Why? Well, Teaneck got to be No. 1 by knocking off Saddle River Day… which then defeated IHA… which then bested Teaneck. To be fair, the Highwaywomen have been without two sophomore stars, Lexi Carnegie and Jillian Carter. Both make their team a contender for the top seed in the Bergen County Tournament, which will be selected this week.

Ramapo scored a one-point victory over a healthy Teaneck in December, further complicating matters. The Raiders entered the new week on an eight-game win streak that started after a loss to IHA.

The only top-10 team with a longer string of wins is Eastside at nine – a run that essentially secured them the top seed in Passaic County, And the Ghosts are one of two teams on this list to defeat Immaculate Heart.

The time to reach for the brass ring is still to come, so this week’s rankings are merely a reflection of where teams are this time around.
