Giants injury updates: Kenny Golladay, Aaron Robinson likely to miss time

The New York Giants may have defeated the Chicago Bears, 20-12, in Week 4, but it came at a cost. In excess of 10 players went down injured and the prognosis on some of them is less than desirable.

During a Monday afternoon Zoom conference with the team’s beat reporters, head coach Brian Daboll broke down each — some in more detail than others.

Here are the updates on the team’s walking wounded.

Kenny Golladay suffered a knee injury in Week 4 and Daboll is not at all optimistic he’ll be able to play against the Green Bay Packers. In fact, he may miss a little more time than that.

“Golladay — we’ll see how it goes towards the end of the week. I’d say it doesn’t look promising,” Daboll told reporters on Monday.

Daniel Jones

Daniel Jones exited Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears with an ankle injury but was later forced to return. There is some optimism that he’ll be able to play in Week 5, and Daboll did say he was feeling better.

“Daniel is feeling a little bit better today. We’ll just see how that goes,” Daboll said. “I just think each day we take a look at him. He can throw from the pocket just fine. Obviously, he has another skillset that you can utilize, whether that’s move the pockets or zone-reads. So, I’d say the first thing we do is make sure he’s as healthy as can be, and if he can do the things we need him to do for that game plan, then we talk about it. If he can’t, then he can’t.”

The coach did refuse to provide details on Jones’ injury, leading some to believe he has a high-ankle sprain.

“He’s fine in that regard,” Daboll said when asked if Jones’ ankle was fractured. “He’s got an ankle. It’s sprained. I’m not going to get into the specifics of it.”

The Giants intend to work out some quarterbacks this week but won’t make a decision on any until Thursday.

Tyrod Taylor

Shortly after Jones exited Sunday’s game, so did Tyrod Taylor. He was later diagnosed with a concussion and remains in protocol.

“Ty’s in the (concussion) protocol,” Daboll said. “We take every injury serious here, and we try to do everything we can do to put the player’s best interest in mind. That’s what we’ll always do.”

Asked specifically about the hit that injured Taylor, Daboll said he took no issue with it.

“That happens quick. He scrambled around, and again, I thought he knew what he needed for the first down. I thought the defender made a good play on it. It was a quick bang-bang play,” he said.

Safety Julian Love exited Sunday’s game with what was an unspecified injury. Like Taylor, Daboll said the safety is in concussion protocol.

“We’ll see how that goes, too. He’s in (concussion) protocol as well,” Daboll said.

Evan Neal

Evan Neal suffered a neck injury against the Bears but said after the game that he should be fine. Daboll concurred.

“Evan Neal should be okay,” Daboll said.

After briefly exiting the game on Sunday, guard Mark Glowinski (ankle) did eventually return. He, too, is expected to be fine.

“He should be okay,” Daboll said.

Aaron Robinson

After missing two games following an emergency appendectomy, Aaron Robinson (knee) got twisted up awkwardly on Sunday against the Bears. His prognosis is not nearly as optimistic as some others.

“Probably not,” Daboll said when asked if Robinson would play in Week 5.

Likely Golladay, Robinson may miss a couple games.

Henry Mondeaux

After being carted off the field in Week 4, it looked like Henry Mondeaux’s season might be over. The good news is that it’s not. The bad news is that he’s going to miss some time.

“Probably not,” Daboll said when asked if Mondeaux could play against the Packers.

Asked specifically if Mondeaux’s season was over, Daboll simply said, “nope.”

Azeez Ojulari

On Sunday, Azeez Ojulari re-injured his calf, which had caused him to miss the first two weeks of the season. His status is somewhat up in the air.

“Azeez — we’ll kind of see where he’s at here on Wednesday when he gets back,” Daboll said.

Kayvon Thibodeaux

Rookie Kayvon Thibodeaux suffered back spasms in the final moments of Sunday’s game against the Bears. He insisted he was fine and Daboll seems to agree.

“Kayvon should be okay,” Daboll said.

Veteran Jihad Ward also found himself injured in Week 4 and although specifics of his injury are unclear, Daboll & Co. think he’ll be just fine.

“Ward will be okay,” Daboll said.

Rookie Wan’Dale Robinson suffered a sprained MCL in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans and hasn’t seen the field since.

Toney, meanwhile, has dealt with multiple injuries including a lingering hamstring issue.

Although Daboll still refuses to put a timetable on either, he did note that they’re improving and wouldn’t rule out either playing on Sunday in London.

“Kadarius, Wan’Dale — we’ll see where those guys are at here as the week goes on,” Daboll said. “I think they’re all making progress. Again, (it’s) Monday. So, they’ve got a couple days here. So, we’ll see where they’re at once we get done, call it Thursday.

“I think Kadarius and Wan’Dale are making progress.”

Leonard Williams has missed the previous two games with a sprained MCL. Daboll did not offer an update on his progress.
