Georgia baseball live score updates from NCAA Super Regional Game 2 vs. N.C. State

Georgia baseball coach Wes Johnson doesn’t have to look too far back to remember a team that got their butts kicked in an NCAA Tournament postseason game and responded the right way.

The game before LSU won the College World Series last season with Johnson as the pitching coach, the Tigers were drubbed 24-4 by Florida. They came back the next day to win the championship.

"It happens," said Johnson, whose team was drilled 18-1 by N.C. State Saturday. "We've had four or five of these games this year. It's where this team is and that's fine. I think the resilience we've shown in that next game is what you build off of. As I told our guys, you've just got to flush it."

Georgia (42-16) has never lost a Super Regional in its previous four appearances, but it needs to win Sunday and Monday against N.C. State (37-20) to get to the College World Series for the first time since 2008.

"We'll respond," Johnson said. "We'll be ready to go."

Georgia has leaned on its power hitting this year and will look to tap into it on Sunday.

"We led the country on offense for how long?" first baseman Corey Collins said. "I'm confident in our guys and putting good swings on balls."

N.C. State is trying to return to the College World Series for the first time since 2021 when it wasn’t knocked out by another opponent, but because it didn’t have enough players due to COVID protocols.

“You don’t get revenge in this world for me,” coach Elliott Avent said Friday. “I don’t play with revenge or retribution. I never tell our guys to play with a chip on our shoulder. That’s not my style. You can practice with a chip on your shoulder and you can have memories in your past that make you work harder, prepare harder and hopefully it leads you to a good place."

Georgia is expected to turn to Leighton Finley (5-1, 4.41 ERA) to start game two while the Wolfpack are likely to go with Dominc Fritton (3-5, 6.75 ERA).

Reliever Chandler Marsh said of Finley: "He's got unreal stuff and he's an unreal competitor."
