Gastonia, Shelby high school top performers: Here are basketball tournament week's best

Here is a daily list of the top performers from Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln counties during the 14th week of winter sports action.

Our weekly top performers list and athlete of the week nominees are compiled courtesy of information provided to The Gaston Gazette and Shelby Star by coaches, athletic directors or team statisticians through emails, MaxPreps or mentioning @JoeLHughesII in game results and highlights posted to X, formerly known as Twitter.

Friday, Feb. 23

Boys basketball

Trenton Sherrill, East Gaston: Scored a team-high 29 points to help the Warriors to defeat Shelby 57-51 in the Southern Piedmont 1A/2A tournament final. It is the Warriors’ second tournament title in a row.

Damontia Duff, Hunter Huss: Scored 17 points to go with six rebounds, four steals and three assists to help the Huskies to a 75-61 win over Kings Mountain in the Big South 3A title game.

Trimell Dunlap, Hunter Huss: Finished with a double-double (24 points, 16 rebounds).

Z-Man Gladden, Hunter Huss: Had 12 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Bradley Floyd, Kings Mountain: Scored a team-high 24 points in a 75-61 loss to Hunter Huss in the Big South 3A final.

Caleb Nixon, Kings Mountain: Had 10 points.

Tucker Robinette, Kings Mountain: Scored 14 points.

Ty Sanders, North Lincoln: Finished with a team-high 19 points as the Knights fell to Hickory 89-68 in the Western Foothills 3A title game.

John Carmichael, Piedmont Community Charter: Had 13 points and four rebounds in the Patriots’ 78-65 loss to Carolina International in the Metro 8 1A tournament final.

Victor Plessmoses, Piedmont Community Charter: Had 13 points and six rebounds.

Xavier Wilcher, Piedmont Community Charter: Scored a team-high 18 points to go with four assists, two rebounds and two steals.

Drew Hollifield, Shelby: Scored a team-high 14 points in a 57-51 overtime loss to East Gaston in the Southern Piedmont 1A/2A final.

Girls basketball

Tionna Pettus, Bessemer City: Scored a team-high 20 points in a 58-40 loss to Thomas Jefferson in the Southern Piedmont 1A/2A title game.

Kionna Pettus, Bessemer City: Scored 16 points.

Harmony Allen, Crest: Led the Chargers with 14 points in a 50-43 loss to Stuart Cramer in the Big South 3A title game.

Nevaeh Blackwell, Crest: Had 11 points.

Kiara Anderson, East Lincoln: Had 19 points, three rebounds, two steals and an assist to help the Lady Mustangs to a 51-33 win over North Iredell in the Western Foothills 3A title game. Anderson was named to the all-tournament team.

Abigail Hege, East Lincoln: Was named to the Western Foothills 3A all-tournament team after corralling 16 rebounds.

Emma Montanari, East Lincoln: Was voted Western Foothills 3A tournament MVP after scoring 20 points to go with six rebounds, six steals, six blocks and four assists.

Martha Guinle, Lincoln Charter: Scored a team-high 11 points, earning Catawba Shores 1A/2A tournament MVP honors after helping the Eagles to a 39-28 win over Community School of Davidson in the league title game.

Kallie Lusk, Lincoln Charter: Had 10 points.

Addison Berry, Piedmont Community Charter: Scored 10 points as the Patriots cruised to the Metro 8 1A title with a 54-13 victory over Sugar Creek.

Bree Phillips, Piedmont Community Charter: Scored a team-high 12 points.

Oshauna Holland, Stuart Cramer: Recorded a double-double with 32 points and 11 rebounds to go with six assists, nine steals and a block to help the Storm claim the Big South 3A tournament title over Crest, 50-43.

Thursday, Feb. 22

Boys basketball

Khamoni Heath, Lincolnton: Had 10 points in a 71-60 loss to West Caldwell.

Landen Lyerly, Lincolnton: Recorded a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds.

Tyler McClain, Lincolnton: Had 11 points and five rebounds.

Ben Heavner, North Lincoln: Had 12 points and five rebounds as the Knights downed Statesville 83-76.

Kellen Karr, North Lincoln: Recorded a triple-double with 23 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists.

Ty Sanders, North Lincoln: Had 29 points and four rebounds.

Wednesday, Feb. 21

Boys basketball

Isaac Byers Jr., Ashbrook: Scored a team-high 22 points in an 81-78 loss to Kings Mountain.

Jamarion Patton, Ashbrook: Scored 21 points.

Jamari Smith, Ashbrook: Scored 19 points.

Yoel Mussie, Highland Tech: Had 11 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals in an 83-68 loss to Shelby.

Elijah Sherrill, Highland Tech: Scored 29 points to go with five rebounds and three assists.

Elijah Whitted, Highland Tech: Had 29 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Damontia Duff, Hunter Huss: Scored 14 points in helping the Huskies to an 88-82 win over Crest in Wednesday’s Big South 3A semifinal matchup. Huss will take on Kings Mountain on Friday

Z-Man Gladden, Hunter Huss: Scored 21 points.

Antonio Griggs, Hunter Huss: Scored 12 points.

Satchelle Pettis, Hunter Huss: Had 14 points.

Zii Phillips, Hunter Huss: Recorded a double-double with 27 points — including four 3-pointers.

Bradley Floyd, Kings Mountain: Scored a team-high 22 points.

J’Myun Huskey, Kings Mountain: Scored 11 points.

Kee’donn Linney, Kings Mountain: Had 17 points.

Tucker Robinette, Kings Mountain: Scored 14 points.

Kelan Flowers, Lincoln Charter: Scored 12 points in a 62-57 loss to Pine Lake Prep.

Krishtan Flowers, Lincoln Charter: Scored a team-high 20 points.

David Reid IV, Lincoln Charter: Scored 10 points.

Bobby Erwin, Piedmont Community Charter: Had a team-high 26 points to go with five rebounds, three steals and an assist in a 91-68 win over Queen’s Grant in a Metro 8 1A tournament semifinal game. The Patriots will take on Carolina International in Friday’s tournament final.

Eli Grant, Piedmont Community Charter: Had 12 points, four steals, three assists and two rebounds.

Victor Plessmoses, Piedmont Community Charter: Recorded a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) to go with four assists.

Xavier Wilcher, Piedmont Community Charter: Scored 15 points and had seven rebounds.

Girls basketball

Monica Surratt, Crest: Scored a game-high 36 points in leading her team to a 62-52 win over South Point in a Big South 3A semifinal game. The Chargers will take on Stuart Cramer on Friday in the conference tournament final at Kings Mountain High.

Kiara Anderson, East Lincoln: Had 10 points, eight assists, six rebounds and three steals in a 60-51 win over North Lincoln. The Mustangs advance to the Western Foothills 3A title game, where they will play Hickory or North Iredell on Friday.

Emma Montanari, East Lincoln: Hit six 3-pointers en route to a 28-point night. She also had an assist, a steal and a block.

Myla Hoover, Hunter Huss: Had a team-high 19 points in a 54-53 overtime loss to Stuart Cramer.

Brooklyn Swann, Hunter Huss: Scored 14 points.

Madi Black, North Lincoln: Scored 14 points in a 60-51 loss to East Lincoln in the Western Foothills 3A semifinal round.

Ally Smith, North Lincoln: Had a team-high 21 points.

Addison Berry, Piedmont Community Charter: Scored 10 points in a 67-37 win over Carolina International. The Patriots advance to Friday’s Metro 8 tournament final.

Lyric Brown, Piedmont Community Charter: Had a team-high 20 points.

Kionna Pettus, Bessemer City: Recorded a double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds) along with seven steals and six assists in a 50-38 win over Shelby. The Yellow Jackets advance to the Southern Piedmont 1A/2A final, where they will play host Thomas Jefferson.

Tionna Pettus, Bessemer City: Earned a double-double (17 points, 12 rebounds) in addition to six steals.

Claire Frank, South Point: Had 11 points in a 62-52 loss to Crest in the Big South 3A semifinal round.

Maddie Frank, South Point: Scored 20 points.

Amya Graham, South Point: Earned her 24th double-double of the season (14 points, 15 rebounds).

Tuesday, Feb. 20

Boys basketball

Isaac Byers Jr., Ashbrook: Had 22 points in the Green Wave’s 84-62 win over North Gaston.

Jamarion Patton, Ashbrook: Scored a team-high 23 points.

Makoi Mabor Marier, Gaston Christian: Recorded a double-double (22 points, 14 rebounds) to go with five blocks in a 63-61 win over High Point Christian. The Eagles advance to the NCISAA 3A state title game for the second time in school history. Gaston Christian will face Forsyth Country Day in Saturday’s state final at Ravenscroft School in Raleigh.

Cam Newman, Gaston Christian: Had 16 points, five assists, five steals and four rebounds.

Cooper McCraw, Highland Tech: Scored 12 points in a 65-39 win over Cherryville.

Elijah Sherrill, Highland Tech: Had 23 points, six rebounds, five steals and three assists.

Elijah Whitted, Highland Tech: Had 16 points, two steals and two assists.

Girls basketball

Kionna Pettus, Bessemer City: Scored 24 points in a 74-66 win over Cherryville.

Tionna Pettus, Bessemer City: Had a game-high 34 points.

Maggie Earl, Burns: Recorded a double-double, scoring a career-high 30 points to go with 16 rebounds in a 49-24 win over Highland Tech.

Monday, Feb. 19

Boys basketball

A.J. Adams, Crest: Scored 13 points and had five assists in an 85-55 win over Stuart Cramer.

King Rhodes, Crest: Recorded a double-double (22 points, 12 rebounds).

Christian Atkins, East Lincoln: Scored 15 points in an 81-67 win over North Iredell.

Jackson Fannon, East Lincoln: Scored 23 points.

Houston Hartsell, East Lincoln: Had 12 points.

Davis Hill, East Lincoln: Had 13 points.

Grant Lawless, East Lincoln: Scored 12 points.

Bradley Floyd, Kings Mountain: Scored a team-high 26 points in a 93-81 win over Forestview..

Jordan Floyd, Kings Mountain: Had 19 points.

J’Myun Huskey, Kings Mountain: Scored 20 points.

Nevaeh Atkins, East Lincoln: Had 14 points, four steals, three assists and two rebounds.

Arielle Camp, Hunter Huss: Had 15 points in a 65-51 win over Forestview.

Savanni Harris, Hunter Huss: Collected 10 rebounds to go with eight points, five assists and three steals.
