Gasthaus closes after 29 years | New bakery & breakfast spot | Wine & Food Experience

Danish Bear Claw at Wiltshire Pantry Bakery & Cafe in downtown Louisville.

It's Maaaaaaay! That's a meme reference to like, three different memes. Love to see it.

Also love to see new restaurants and bars opening up — we have two new trendy bars and a pool hall opening in May. Plus probably some more stuff I haven't heard about yet. As always, if you see something you'd like me to cover, send me a note at dghabour@gannett.com.

Here's the rest of this week's foodie news:

Gasthaus closes after 29 years — One of the only full-service German restaurants in Louisville closed its doors on April 30. Owner Annemarie Greipel is 80 years old and said the closure is due to a combination of reasons: she decided it was time to retire, and though business was good, months of staff shortages have not made it easy. This story is a tribute to a Louisville institution.

New downtown bakery — Ok it's not a new concept but it is a new location. Wiltshire is now downtown, in a spot that opened in January. Traffic is kind of all over the place, as per usual with downtown, where many office workers still work from home. There's no end to the bakery's from-scratch breads, croissants and sweets though!

CJ Wine & Food Experience returns — After a pandemic hiatus, the Courier Journal's Wine & Food event returns this fall! The event features small bites from tons of local restaurants, plus cooking demonstrations and wine seminars. Click through to buy tickets or for more info.

A farmer's market guide — It's finally farmer's market season! Most are open Saturdays and some also operate Tuesday through Thursday. Here's everything you need to know about 22 different markets around Louisville.

New East End breakfast location — Con Huevos is coming to Louisville's East End, in a former Panera Bread space on Hurstbourne Parkway. We don't know when it's opening yet, but it'll be an expansion of a highly popular restaurant in central Louisville.

Thanks for reading and stay safe, everyone!
