Game-winning goals and RBIs: Vote for the top performance from Gardner-area athletes

Rain and snow postponements caused for a hectic first couple of weeks for spring sports (per usual). After the bad weather and lingering effects of that weather, the sun has finally started to poke through and is here -- hopefully -- to stay.

Despite the unpredictable ways of the weather, Gardner-area athletes have been working around the bad conditions to perform well and get off to strong starts this season. Take a look at the top performances from April 8-13 and vote for who you think should be The Gardner News Athlete of the Week below!

Softball

Lily Celata, Narragansett

The senior captain went 3-for-5 with two RBIs against Quabbin on April 9. The Warriors won 13-5.

Alison Hazel, Oakmont

The junior led the Spartans past Westboro on April 8, going 4-for-5 with five RBIs to defeat the Rangers 13-6. Teammate Jen Buszkiewicz went 2-for-5 with three RBIs.

Girls Lacrosse

Julia LaPrade, Oakmont

The sophomore attack scored a hattrick in Oakmont's 11-8 loss against Groton-Dunstable on April 9.

Girls Track & Field

Natalia Marchand, Quabbin

Marchand was a triple winner for Quabbin in a meet against Narragansett on April 8. Marchand placed first in the 200 meter with a time of 28.2, the 400 meter (time unavailable due to technical issues) and high jump with a height of 4'10". Teammate Violet Kelley was a double winner in the long jump (14'2) and 100 meter hurdles (19.6).

Maya Starsiak, Monty Tech

The freshman phenom had a successful winter season and is carrying that into the spring. Starsiak finished first in the 1 mile and 2 mile runs to lead Monty Tech against Westborough on April 11. Monty Tech's 4x400 meter relay also won, which included Maryn Leary, Ali Gastonguay, Bailey Tetrault and Bella Sayarath.

Girls Tennis

Annabelle Magill, Quabbin

Magill competed as first singles against Quaboag on April 8. She defeated her opponent 6-0 in both sets to win the match. Her win helped Quabbin to a 5-0 victory over Quaboag.

Girls Golf

Mackenzie Casey, Quabbin

Casey shot a 32 over six holes to lead Quabbin past Ayer-Shirley on April 10. The Panthers took the victory 22.5-13.5.

Baseball

Adam Adams, Quabbin

Adams totaled three RBIs with two hits as well as five strikeouts on the bump to lead the Panthers past Narragansett 10-6. Sean Lapointe also added three RBIs.

Johnny Losordo, Oakmont

The junior had two hits and two runs to lift Oakmont past Leominster 4-3 on April 10. Caleb Allen contributed five hits.

Boys Lacrosse

Quin Buckley, Oakmont

Buckley had himself a week. He scored two goals and added three assists in Oakmont's 8-6 win against North Middlesex on April 9, two goals and two assists in a 10-2 victory over Westborough on April 11, and closed out the week by scoring the game-winner 10 seconds into overtime against Tyngsboro on April 12.

Ryan Quinn, Monty Tech

The senior scored two goals to power the Bulldogs past Nashoba Valley Tech 8-6 on April 12.

Boys Track & Field

Seth Twarog, Quabbin

The senior won three events in a meet against Narragansett on April 8. He placed first in the 200 meter, 400 meter and the pole vault to lead the Panthers to a 97-47 victory. Bryce Venne helped add points to the total with first place finishes in the 400 meter hurdles and the triple jump.
