Game, set, match: Wednesday's MetroWest and Milford-area Fantastic 5 high school athletes

Fancy a spot of tennis? Wednesday's MetroWest and Milford-area Fantastic Five (ish) high school athletes powered their teams to important wins on the court. Some clinched sectional tiles, others exacted revenge.

There are also league titles, walk-off wins and major career milestones sprinkled in.

Without further ado, here's who stood out Wednesday, May 23:

KADEN CHEN, Westborough boys tennis

The Rangers No. 1 singles player helped them avenge a loss in last year's state final when he beat Duxbury's Tim Vargas 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. Westborough defeated the Dragons 3-2 with the strength of its singles play. No. 2 Srinjoy Ghosh bested Taylor Bettencourt 6-0, 6-1, while Jordan Hlawek prevailed 6-1, 6-1 against Brandon Marconi at No. 3.

AVA COSSETTE, Tri-County softball

She had five RBIs and three hits, including the 100th of her career in a 23-4 victory over South Shore in the second game of a doubleheader. In that game, Kaleigh Stenstrom punched out six and picked up the victory while adding two hits. Maddy Benoit contributed three hits for the Cougars (16-3), while Mackenzie Duffy dropped in two. Tri-County won the first game 12-2. Elle Marshall struck out 12 and allowed two hits over five innings for the Cougars. Tri-County's Breann MacMillan launched a grand slam in the second inning among her two hits. Duffy added a two-run homer in the third inning. Haley Kunicki scored three runs after two hits for the Cougars.

TIMMY KEARNEY, Lincoln-Sudbury boys volleyball

He dished out 59 assists with seven kills and five blocks in a 27-25, 23-25. 25-17, 25-27, 15-10 win for the Warriors (10-7). Kieran Fagan led L-S with 17 kills, while Sebastiano D'Ambrosio (two aces) put down 15 and Ryan Heberling had 12.

BROOKE LAUDATE, AMSA softball

She singled, doubled and scored two runs in a 5-1 win over Nipmuc in the Central Mass. Class B semifinals. The Eagles (14-3) face Hudson for the title at 4 p.m. Thursday at Worcester State. Sera DeBaggis and Keegan Kelley both went 2-for-3 for the Warriors (15-3).

HANNAH LAWRENCE, Natick girls lacrosse

She registered the 900th save of her career in a 16-2 loss against Wellesley.

KEENAN MACDONALD, Hopkinton baseball

He dropped in two hits and scored the winning run of a 3-2 victory over Medfield that clinched the Tri-Valley League title for the Hillers. Hopkinton starter Matt Gaughan struck out nine against two hits and didn't allow an earned run. Lucas Hodne and Davis Peishoff singled and scored a run.

PIA OBRADOR, Hopedale girls tennis

She led the Blue Raiders to the Central Mass. Class C championships with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Bromfield's Michele Xu at No. 1 singles. Hopedale prevailed 4-1. The Blue Raiders swept the doubles points. Abbie Aldrich and Callie Costanza took down Nina Iverson and Nora Clarke 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1, and Gabriella Rinehart and Madison Buttonow rallied 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 against Zariya Ali and Luise Tatarev at No. 2. Sidney Hall earned the NO. 3 singles point after Bromfield's Khivi Nanra retired before a third set.

Baseball

DOVER-SHERBORN 16, Dedham 4: Junior Theo Allan drove in four RBIs with two hits and pitched the seventh inning for the Raiders (12-8, 10-6 TVL).

WELLESLEY 4, Natick 2: Ryan McCausland allowed just one earned run and five hits with eight strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings for the Raiders (13-5, 9-4 Bay State). Wellesley's Luke Miele drove in two runs, while Charlie Carpenter contributed two hits. Natick's Robert Farr had two hits, an RBI and scored a run, while James Bianchi walked twice and drove in a run for the Redhawks.

ASSABET 10, Nashoba 8: C.J. Coelho struck out nine in six innings of relief and scored four runs, and Albert Cox drove in five for Assabet (5-13).

BROOKLINE 4, Framingham 3: Jace Coleman had two hits and scored a run for the Flyers (9-11). Framingham's Jeremy Auren singled and scored a run, while Lucas Messer, Jackson Donato and JJ Blanchard had an RBI each.

HOLLISTON 3, Ashland 2 (8): Teddy Peters struck out nine to earn the win after a complete game on the mound and went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Holliston's Brad Andreola doubled and had an RBI, while Arav Prajapati delivered the walk off hit. Ashland's Oliver Lareau singled and drove in two runs, while Chris Bratica doubled among his two hits.

MEDWAY 4, Millis 0: John Farrell struck out seven and allowed just two hits, adding a single and an RBI for the Mustangs. Medway's Jason Bedard, Aidan Tkowski and Trevor Smith (run) each had an RBI. Millis' Nick Hohman had two hits.

BELLINGHAM 10, Norton 0: Ryan Nolan had three hits and scored three runs for the Blackhawks (11-7). Bellingham's Ross Priscella connected on two hits and touched home twice. Blackhawk pitchers CJ Fama and Alex Hughes both contributed to the shutout.

MEDWAY 8, Millis 7: Priya Bedard connected on the walk off sacrifice fly and was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Mustangs (12-5, 10-5 TVL). Medway's Katie Anderson also had three hits, while Gracie Delucia (three RBIs) and Allyson Fagan contributed two hits each. Millis' Riley Caulfield and Molly Rand had two hits each.

ASSABET 6, Burncoat 5 (9): Jennica Knollenberg's RBI single in the ninth inning won for Assabet (6-11). Mia Gonzalez homered for Assabet, and Aaliyah Salamone struck out eight in eight innings.

WESTBOROUGH 4, Algonquin 1: Brianna Sawicki tallied two hits, Miranda Antonelli singled and scored twice, and Bryce Kane allowed a run on four hits and struck out 11 for the Rangers (8-10). Cassie Hodge recorded three hits for the Titans (4-13), and Hannah Dunleavy drove in a run in the fourth.

LINCOLN-SUDBURY 14, Bedford 2: Nicole Lent (RBI, two stolen bases) and Sophie Jorjorian (two doubles, two RBIs) had two hits each for the Warriors.

NATICK 6, Wellesley 5: Olivia Schultz singled, doubled and tripled with two stolen bases for the Redhawks (8-10).

Boys lacrosse

MANSFIELD 17, AMSA 6: Luc Masse and Tavin Hirsh each had two goals and one assist and Connor Hume stopped 14 shots for the Eagles.

BELLINGHAM 14, Dedham 4: Ryan Austin scored six goals with an assist in a 14-4 with over Dedham. Austin needs three goals Friday against Norton to set the Blackhawks' single-season record. He already has the points record (70). Brady Carroll added four goals and three assists for the Blackhawks (6-11, 4-7 Tri-Valley League), while Bryson Nicholson found the net twice with an assist. Bellingham's Jack Baker won 18-of-20 faceoffs.

Girls lacrosse

ALGONQUIN 12, Leominster 8: Bryn Domolky led the Titans (11-7) with four goals, while Bella Roman added a hat trick and an assist. Algonquin's Courtney Dodds found the net twice.

Boys volleyball

WAYLAND 3, St. John's Prep 0: Joe Kelly and Finn bell led the way with 12 kills each in a 26-24, 25-22, 25-21 win for the Warriors (12-7). Wayland's Liam Frenzel contributed 14 digs.

Girls tennis

MILLIS 3, Medway 2: Millis' No. 1 doubles pair Izzy Doherty and Addy Loer rallied for a three-set victory 3-6, 6-1 6-2. Millis No. 3 singles player Adriana Villacis prevailed 6-2, 6-0, and the No. 2 doubles team Macy Schneiderat and Tess Molinari won 6-4, 6-.2

WESTBOROUGH 4, Minnechaug 1: Sahasra Kommineni paced the rangers with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ava Croteau at No. 3 singles. Westborough (11-5) No. 2 Diya Bhattacharya prevailed 6-2, 6-2 against Lili DiGrande. The Rangers swept the doubles points. No. 1 pair Nicole Nguyen and Elena Chen took out Rose Caltabiano and Mary Woytowicz 6-2, 6-0, and Ella Glasgow and Raina Bettadpur beat Chloe Robins and Aliva Grono 7-5, 6-2.

AUBURN 4, Hudson 1: The Hawks fell in the Central Mass. Class B championship, but Lauren Shurling and Gracie Gardia earned a 7-5, 6-1 win over Nicole Gallant and Maggie Slomski at No. 1 doubles.

WELLESLEY 4, Natick 1: Natalie Dudkina earned a 6-3, 7-6 win to earn her first varsity win in her first varsity match at No. 3 singles for the Raiders (17-1).

HOPKINTON 3, Medfield 2: May Chen, Avery Michaud and Roman Tewari secured the singles points for the Hillers (13-5).

Girls golf

CENTRAL MASS. CHAMPIONSHIPS: Westborough's Ashley Huang finished seventh at Green Hill Municipal with an 89. The rangers were second behind Wachusett with a 393. Hopkinton was third at 435 led by Leah Hong's 93 (ninth).
