FSU softball vs Oklahoma game recap: FSU's season ends in sweep in Game 2 of NCAA super regionals

It is a must-win for Florida State softball in Game 2 of the NCAA super regional. After being shut down by Oklahoma in Game 1, the Seminoles must beat the Sooners to extend the series to a decisive Game 3, which would be on Saturday at 7 p.m.

If FSU falls, it will be the second year in a row that the Seminoles get swept by the Sooners in the NCAA softball tournament. FSU lost to Oklahoma in last year's Women's College World Series championship.

FSU coach Lonni Alameda said after the game that she would make adjustments to the pitching defense after the Seminoles allowed four home runs. Game 1 ended in a run rule after a walk by the Sooners made it 11-3 in the fifth inning.

FSU-Oklahoma NCAA softball tournament score updates

FSU's season has come to an end with 4-2 loss

With only one last chance of avoiding a sweep, Florida State couldn't deliver in the end. Oklahoma's defense shut down all three batters, Haile Wacaster, Jaysoni Beachum and Kalei Harding.

Oklahoma will continue on its quest for a four-peat in the WCWSThe Seminoles finished the year with a 46-15 record.

Oklahoma is three outs away from sweeping FSU softball

Oklahoma's defense continued to keep FSU grounded. In a quick bottom sixth inning, two big defensive plays by Cydney Sanders gave FSU its first two outs.

Amaya Ross was grounded out on the next bat that would end the inning. Pitcher Nicole May replaced Karlie Keeney in the circle.

With no runs or hits, FSU has one more chance to keep extending super regionals, but the defense must take care of business in the Top 7.

FSU softball holds Oklahoma scoreless to end sixth inning

FSU softball managed to pull through another scoreless inning by stranding three Oklahoma runners on base and allowing three walks. On a 3-2 pitch from Ashtyn Danley, the inning ended on a fielder's choice in second base.

Oklahoma was held scoreless and had no runs, giving FSU another chance to tally more runs in the next inning.

Jaysoni Beachum misses second home run. Kalei Harding hits her first home run for FSU softball

Jaysoni Beachum was on the verge of her second solo home run of the night, but centerfielder Jayda Coleman shut the door with a leaping homerun saved catch, giving Oklahoma's first out of the innings.

Fortunately enough, FSU got a home run anyway, thanks to the hands of Kalei Harding. Florida State cut Oklahoma's lead in half with two outs left. Freshman Isa Torres doubled on the next bat after Michaela Edenfield ground out.

The inning ended with Devyn Flaherty grounded out with the score remaining 4-2.

Oklahoma's freshman Kassidi Pickering hits homerun

The Oklahoma Sooner found the inning it needed. After scoring its second run on a wild pitch, freshman Kassidi Pickering knocks a two-run homer to extend OU's lead to 4-1.

FSU ended the inning, allowing three runs and four hits in the top fifth. Oklahoma has seven total runs.

Oklahoma coach Patty Gasso made a pitching change. Karlie Keeney became the relief pitcher for Kierston Deal.

Oklahoma scores an unearned run in third inning

Oklahoma strategically scored 1-0 on an unearned run. After FSU's infielders were distracted from catching Ella Parker stealing, Tiare Jennings ran to home plate for OU's first score.

It will be the Sooner's only score as Reid threw her strikeout to end the third inning.

Florida State misses opportunity to score runs

Similar to Thursday night, FSU has found ways to get on base. However, when the bases were loaded, the Seminoles failed to score some runs.

Despite allowing a hit, a walk and an error, Oklahoma left all three runners stranded to end the inning. Katie Dack was the pinch hitter who was last at-bat.

The last out was on a pop-up fly. The game remains scoreless, heading into the top third.
