Friday's NY Section III football playoff football results from Mohawk Valley

The Section III football playoffs are upon us and trips to Syracuse University's dome for championship competition are only two weeks away.

Six groups of eight teams will be pared down to quartets this weekend with games hosted by higher seeds Friday and Saturday.

Here is a roundup of results from Friday's games.

Class A: Whitesboro 67, Fulton 6

WHITESBORO - The Whitesboro Warriors took care of business as the No. 1 seed in Class A and defeated Fulton 67-6 in Friday's Section III quarterfinals.

The Warriors (8-1) ran their winning streak to eight games with the victory at Chiz Frye Field and led 43-0 at halftime.

Whitesboro's semifinal opponent will be Corcoran, a 20-18 winner Friday against Central Square.

Class B: Central Valley Academy 55, Homer 21

ILION - Brady Moreau completed 7-of-8 passes and threw for four touchdowns as the Central Valley Academy Thunder opened Section III's Class B playoffs with a 55-21 win over two-time defending champion Homer.

Homer had beaten Central Valley Academy 30-13 in the 2021 quarterfinals and 16-12 in the opening week of last season. The Trojans (4-4) scored first Friday and led 14-7 after the first quarter before the Thunder (7-2) put up 28 points in the second quarter and took a 35-14 halftime lead on the way to a fifth consecutive victory.

Moreau had run for the first Central Valley Academy touchdown. He threw for three in the second quarter, the first for 11 yards to Lincoln Lynch, then two to Deacon Judd, the first covering 59 yards and the second from five yards out as time expired.

Moreau threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Thomas Jacquays in the third quarter, and an 8-yard Xander Kenniston touchdown run extended the lead to 49-14. Kenniston had run 7 yards for a touchdown to get the second-quarter scoring started. Landon LaFountain added a touchdown run.

Alexander Votra ran for two Home touchdowns.

Central Valley Academy, seeded third, meets undefeated Indian River next weekend in the semifinals. Indian River was a 22-20 winner in Ilion during the regular season last fall and beat the Thunder again 22-6 in sectionals.

Class B: Indian River 56, Camden 14

PHILADELPHIA - The Indian River Warriors remain unbeaten following Friday's 56-14 win over Camden in their playoff opener.

The Warriors (9-0), seeded second in Section III's Class B playoff field, scored 28 points in the second quarter and led 44-0 at halftime.

Derek Jones ran for 158 yards and four touchdowns on 12 carries for Indian River which did all of its scoring on the ground. Frederick Haynes Jr had nine carries for 61 yards and two touchdowns, Ethan Hattori had 76 yards and scored a touchdown on three carries, and Teagan Wynne also scored a touchdown. Quarterback Riley Alexander completed three passes for 105 yards.

Adam Gonzalez threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Azier Odom to break up the shutout in the fourth quarter, and Trey O'Rourke ran for a touchdown for Camden (3-6).

Indian River's semifinal opponent will be Central Valley Academy.

Class C: Adirondack 50, Bishop Ludden/Syracuse Academy of Science 35

BOONVILLE - The Adirondack Wildcats scored 30 points after halftime Friday and defeated Bishop Grimes/Syracuse Academy of Science 50-35 in Section III's Class C quarterfinals.

The Wildcats (8-1), seeded fourth, went scoreless through the first quarter and trailed 21-20 at halftime. They took a lead on a touchdown run by quarterback John Hennessey in the third quarter. Bishop Ludden/Syracuse Academy of Science (4-5) tied the score at 28 in the fourth but never regained the lead.

Max Weiler ran eight yards for the touchdown that put the Wildcats back on top, and Hennessey followed with his second rushing touchdown of the game. Isaac Croneiser's 14-yard touchdown run and a two-point pass from Hennessey to Bailey Gleasman gave Adirondack a 50-28 lead.

Hennessey had thrown touchdown passes to Evan Williams and Gleasman in the first half, and he returned an interception for another score.

Thomas Cervantes scored three times for the visitors, and Jahbari Clarke ran for two scores.

Hennessey completed 7-of-8 passes for 62 yards and led the team with 124 rushing yards on 19 carries. Coeiser ran 14 times for 97 yards.

Giovanni Foster led the Adirondack defense with 12 tackles and recovered a fumble.

The Wildcats advance to meet No. 1 Cazenovia in the semifinals. Unbeaten Cazenovia (8-0) defeated Holland Patent 44-14 Friday; Holland Patent had beaten Adirondack in last year's semifinals.

Class D: Mt. Markham 41, Herkimer 0

WINFIELD - The Mt. Markham Mustangs started the 2023 season with four consecutive shutouts. They started Section III's Class D playoffs with a fifth in Friday's 41-0 win over Herkimer.

The Mustangs (6-3), playing at home as the No. 4 seed, led 22-0 at haftime against a Herkimer team they had trailed 31-18 at halftime on the road three weeks earlier in an eventual 54-34 victory. Mt. Markham scored 28 points in the fourth quarter to complete that comeback in Herkimer; the Mustangs scored a single touchdown in the fourth quarter Friday.

Senior Dom Jones returned to the Mt. Markham lineup after missing four games and scored Friday's first three touchdowns. Jones ran the ball eight times for 108 yards and scored on runs covering 35 yards in the first quarter and 26 in the second. He ran an interception back 50 yards for his third score before halftime.

Evan Kocienda and Arjay Piersma ran for touchdowns in the second half, and Jameson Young was on the receiving end of a 43-yard Eli Pasquale touchdown pass in the third quarter.

CJ Jones ran for 72 yards on six carries for the Mustangs, and Pasquale completed three of the six passes he attempted.

Herkimer (2-7) finishes the season with a fourth consecutive loss, a steak that started with the Magicians first game against Mt. Markham.

Mt. Markham's semifinal opponent will be Sandy Creek, the undefeated No. 1 seed and a 22-8 winner Friday over Cato-Meridian. Sandy Creek won 28-18 at Mt. Markham Oct. 13.

Eight Player: Morrisville-Eaton 56, Sauquoit Valley 6

MORRISVILLE - The Morrisville-Eaton Warriors bounced back from their first loss of the season and Section III's defending eight-player champions defeated Sauquoit Valley 56-6 Friday.

The second-seeded Warriors (7-1) scored 43 points in the first half and never fell behind at home.

Junior Carter Highers scored four touchdowns, three while running for 80 yards on seven carries, and one on a 28-yard pass from Levi Doroshenko. Austin Zaleski ran nine times for 107 yards and two touchdowns, and Mason Marland and Evan Stewart each ran for a touchdown.

Sauquoit Valley finishes the season at 4-4 after a one-win season last fall.

Morrisville-Eaton awaits the winner of Saturday's game between West Canada Valley and Thousand Islands.

Eight Player: Weedsport 32, New York Mills 0

WEEDSPORT - Weedsport scored 24 points in the second quarter Friday and shut out the New York Mills Marauders 32-0 in Section III quarterfinal play for eight-player football.

Mason Kocur ran for three touchdowns for Weedsport (6-2) and Nico Giacolone had the fourth.

Weedsport was winless last fall but won Section III's first two eight-player championships in 2018 and 2019.

New York Mills, which entered the playoffs on a three-game winning streak, finishes the season with a 4-3 record.

Weedport's semifinal opponent will be Frankfort-Schuyler, the undefeated No. 1 seed.
