Friday's HS sports highlights: New Phila falls in regular season finale

Drew Dossi scored 21 points, Javar Simpson added 12 and Micah McKee put in 11 as host Wooster knocked off New Philadelphia 53-43 in a non-conference high school boys basketball contest Friday night.

Wooster improved to 11-10, while New Philadelphia ended its regular season at 15-7.

The two teams will play one another twice next season as the Quakers will join the Generals in the Ohio Cardinal Conference.

Carter Vandall led the Quakers with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Michael Vickers followed with 10 points.

The teams were tied 13-13 at the end of the first quarter. Wooster took a 28-25 lead at the half on a late 3-pointer and extended their advantage to eight at 43-35 going to the final frame.

Hiland 47, Tusky Valley 32

Dylan Weaver and Chris Shetler each scored 11 points and Grant Miller added 10 as Hiland defeated Tusky Valley in an Inter-Valley Conference South Division contest.

The Hawks improved to 17-4, 11-1, while the Trojans dropped to 15-7, 7-5.

Hiland led 3-1 after the first quarter, 15-9 at the half and 35-28 going to the fourth quarter.

Logan Stotzer led Tusky Valley with 11 points and Cody Robinson was next with seven.

Coshocton 49, Claymont 36

Zach Jennings fired in 23 points and Abe Jarvis was next with nine as host Coshocton clipped Claymont in non-league action on Senior Night at The Wigwam.

Brody Moreland led Claymont with 13 points. Connor Lynch and Dillon Watkins were next with six each.

Coshocton was on top 20-11 after one quarter, 29-14 at the half and 40-22 going to the final frame.

Claymont won the JV game 47-35, but the freshman fell 35-32.

Wheeling Central 68, Harrison Central 61

Visiting Wheeling Central Catholic picked up a win at Harrison Central.

Wheeling Central led 19-16 after one quarter and 49-48 going to the fourth quarter.

Harrison Central defeated Wheeling Central 45-38 in the JV contest.

Wrestling

IVC Tournament

Indian Valley won the Inter-Valley Conference Tournament held at Claymont High School.

The Braves scored 222 points on their way to winning the championship.

Sandy Valley was second with 178.50 and Malvern took third with 152.5, while Tusky Valley (4th, 118) and the host Mustangs (5th, 106.5) finished in the top five.

Winning individual championships for Sandy Valley were Brandon Boggs (106 pounds), Brody Marks (144), Bam Moyer (150), Matt Gentry (165), and Wyatt Moyer (215).

Also placing were Evan Natale (2nd at 120), Brodie Diss (3rd at 126, and Alec Trent (4th at 285).

Wyatt Moyer broke the school record by recording his 102nd career pin, and he was also named IVC Wrestler of the Year.

Malvern’s Robbie Wilson was voted IVC Coach of the Year by his peers.

Ridgewood (6th, 88), Newcomerstown (7th, 58), Garaway (8th, 53) and Conotton Valley (9th, 3) rounded out the field.

Bowling

Sandy Valley vs. Indian Valley

Visiting Sandy Valley and Indian Valley split at Cy Young Lanes.

The Sandy Valley girls pulled out a slim 1,728-1,724 win over Indian Valley.

Miah Delaney led the Cardinals wit a 343 series (212-131) and Makenzie McLemore added a 292 (142-150).

Kiana Stevens paced the Braves with a 304 (138-116) and Kari Mace chipped in a 301 (151-150).

The Indian Valley boys were 2,062-1,821 winners as Frasher Gray rolled a 361 (181-180) and Daniel Grewell added a 347 (172-170).

Jacob Fiddler led Sandy Valley with a 331 (149-182) and Jaden Cappillo added a 287 (119-168).
