Friday night's scheduled high school football game between Desert Hot Springs and Desert Mirage has been moved to Monday due to poor air quality.

The game, which was to be played at Desert Mirage High School in Thermal, was postponed by the Coachella Valley Unified School District superintendent due to lingering air quality issues resulting from Thursday's dust storm.

The athletic directors at the two schools agreed to play the game at 6 p.m. on Monday instead of canceling it.

"I'm glad they were able to come up with something because the boys were excited for this one, and they didn't want to miss it," said Desert Mirage coach Jesus Felipe.

Desert Mirage has a 2-4 record while Desert Hot Springs was searching for its first win, entering the game at 0-6.

The other high school in the school district, Coachella Valley High School, was scheduled to play on the road Friday at Twentynine Palms, so their game was not affected.

For Desert Hot Springs, this date change also affects its game next week. The Golden Eagles were scheduled to host Twentynine Palms on Thursday, Oct. 13. But with this week's game now being played Monday, the three-day turnaround was not a viable option.

Instead, their Thursday game will now be played at noon on Saturday at Desert Hot Springs. So to recap, next week, Desert Hot Springs will play at Desert Mirage at 6 p.m. on Monday and at home against Twentynine Palms at noon on Saturday.

Desert Mirage will follow up Monday's game with its regularly scheduled road game on Friday night at Yucca Valley.
