Friday sports roundup: Windom baseball team beats Luverne; JCC, MCC softball teams win big

WINDOM — The Windom baseball team improved to a 2-1 season record Tuesday following a home win over Big South Conference rival Luverne.

The Eagles overcame their 2-1 road loss to Worthington earlier in the week and will be back on the road Tuesday against St. James Area to begin a stretch of six consecutive road games.

Luverne dropped to a 1-2 record and after winning its season opener have now lost two in a row. The Cardinals will host Esko on Saturday.

Softball

Jackson County Central 10, Edgerton/SWC 0

JACKSON — The Jackson County Central softball team handed Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian its first loss of the season Thursday in a dominant 10-0 shutout in six innings.

The Huskies improve their season record to 3-1, while the Flying Dutchmen fall to 2-1.

Leading the charge for JCC was freshman pitcher Mady Wachal, who struck out 13 batters and didn't allow a single walk. At the plate, Bailey Fink had a 2-RBI single and then later hit a 2-run home run to contribute the most to the JCC offense.

The Huskies will host Luverne Tuesday in a Big South Conference doubleheader while the Flying Dutchmen will host Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda for a game Tuesday.

Murray County Central 13, Lac qui Parle Valley 3

SLAYTON — The Murray County Central softball team surged ahead in the final two innings of play to win big over Lac qui Parle Valley in five innings.

Lac qui Parle Valley initially took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning and then led 3-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth. That was when the Rebels began to pull away. They scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-3 lead and then six more in the bottom of the sixth to win the game early due to the 10 run rule.

Thea Schneider pitched all five innings for MCC, collected four strikeouts and gave up four hits. The Rebels had seven hits in total with Abigale Loosbrock getting two of them with four RBIs and two runs. She hit the game's lone home run.

Kaitlyn Blankenship had two RBIs on one hit and Emmi Peltola, Atalie Rosenbrook and Calleigh Doeden each had an RBI. Peltola also had two hits and Ava Deacon scored three runs

The Rebels improved their season record to 4-1 and they will hit the road Tuesday for a game with Russell-Tyler-Ruthton.
