Four-star wing Gehrig Normand recaps his official visit to Wisconsin

Earlier this week, fast-rising four-star wing Gehrig Normand out of North Richland Hills, Texas took an official visit to Wisconsin.

“I think what stood out most was the people. Everyone was so welcoming and so nice,” said Normand.

According to the Rivals recruiting database, the four-star wing is the No. 76 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, and the No. 16 shooting guard in the country.

“We did everything on my visit. I went to Barry Alvarez’s house, was on Facetime with Sam Dekker, hung out with the players, and even did a photo shoot.”

The Birdville High School standout has now taken official visits to both Missouri and Wisconsin. He also plans to visit Texas and Oklahoma State before making a potential decision later this summer.

“I’m looking for somewhere I can be as confident as possible, and a school where I can trust the coach and have them trust me so I can put a product on the floor that wins a National Championship,” Normand told BadgersWire. “Wisconsin is definitely a school I can see myself at, I just need to narrow down everything and see where I fit best.”

As Wisconsin continues trending toward playing position-less basketball, the 6-foot-6, 175-pound wing makes a ton of sense for the Badgers. The Texas native is a tough and versatile scorer who can space the floor with his three-point shooting, and also take defenders off the dribble.

“My first impression of Coach Gard was that he’s one of the nicest coaches I’ve ever met. He’s super relatable and puts himself in other people’s shoes,” said Normand.

Coach Gard is in need of a true wing prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, and has firmly zeroed in on Jamie Kaiser and Gehrig Normand. Both of which would pair nicely with John Blackwell and Gus Yalden who are already committed to UW.
