Four sleeper picks to win 2022 Wells Fargo Championship

The game’s best players are headed to TPC Potomac at Avenel Farms for the Wells Fargo Championship. If that sounds odd, it should, as the regular host venue, Quail Hollow Club, will stage the Presidents Cup later this year.

TPC Potomac hosted the Quicken Loans National in 2017 and 2018 but hasn’t been featured on Tour since.

Rory McIlroy is both the defending champion and betting favorite (+750). Last year’s triumph was McIlroy’s third Wells Fargo Championship victory, but here are a few sleepers for this week:

Harman won the 2017 Wells Fargo Championship, the last time it wasn’t played at Quail Hollow (Eagle Pointe Golf Club). In his last three stroke-play event starts, Harman has tied for fifth (RBC Heritage), missed the cut (Masters), and tied for 35th (RBC Heritage).

This week, the best course comparison to Potomac is TPC River Highlands, the home of the Travelers Championship. Last season, Harman tied for fifth in Connecticut.

Kevin Streelman (+7000)

Streelman tied for 17th in 2017 and 32nd in 2018 at the Quicken Loans National. Before missing the cut last season, Streelman finished second at the 2020 Travelers and T-15 in 2019.

His last two starts on Tour weren’t great (MC, T-67), however, he recently grabbed a T-7 at the Valspar and a T-18 at the Valero.

Beau Hossler (+10000)

Hossler missed the weekend in his last two starts but finished T-4 at the Valero Texas Open a month ago. At the 2018 Quicken Loans, Hossler tied for sixth. Last season, Hossler finished T-10 at the Travelers Championship.

Sung Kang (+10000)

This pick is strictly based on course history. Kang tied for fifth at the 2017 Quicken Loans and finished solo third in 2018.

Recently, Kang broke a streak of five straight missed cuts when he finally played a weekend at the Mexico Open.
