Formula One: Lewis Hamilton wins Portuguese Grand Prix as Max Verstappen finishes second

Lewis Hamilton has won the Portuguese Grand Prix, beating Max Verstappen to first place.

Verstappen seemed to have recorded the fastest lap in Sunday’s race, snatching it from Hamilton’s Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas late on, but a track-limits infringement saw the bonus point go to Bottas in the end.

Bottas finished in third place at the Algarve International Circuit.

Reigning Formula One champion Hamilton emerged victorious in last month’s season-opener in Bahrain, before Red Bull’s Verstappen won in Emilia-Romagna two weeks ago.

Verstappen finished second in Bahrain, while Hamilton was runner-up in Emilia-Romagna.

Sunday’s result therefore keeps Hamilton ahead of his Dutch-Belgian rival at the top of the F1 leaderboard.
