Former Vol guides Oak Ridge to regular-season championship

Former Tennessee basketball player Aaron Green guided Oak Ridge High School (Oak Ridge, Tennessee) to a boys District 3-4A championship.

Green, in his 13th season as head coach, guided Oak Ridge to a 22-4 (9-1 District 3-4A) regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the league’s upcoming postseason tournament.

Oak Ridge lost its regular-season finale to Fulton High School (Knoxville, Tennessee), 55-42, Saturday. The Wildcats play in the District 3-4A tournament semifinals at Powell High School (Powell, Tennessee) on Friday.

By virtue of its regular-season championship, Oak Ridge will advance to the Region 2-4A tournament. The Wildcats’ lone district loss was against West High School (Knoxville, Tennessee), which is coached by Aubin Goporo, a former member of Rick Barnes’ support staff.

Green played for the Vols from 1995-99 under head coaches Kevin O’Neill and Jerry Green.

Green appeared in 100 games, including 11 starts, during his career at Tennessee. He averaged 5.4 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.
