Former UGA DB joins Georgia football staff

Sheldon Dawson, a former UGA defensive back from 2012 to 2014, is back with the Georgia football program.

Dawson announced on Twitter that he will return to Athens to serve as a defensive quality control coach and assistant defensive backs coach.

Dawson signed with Georgia as a 4-star athlete in the class of 2012 out of Memphis, Tennessee. He ranked as the top player in his state when he signed with UGA.

Under Mark Richt, Dawson played in 27 games as a defensive back, making one start. He would transfer to UT Martin and play two seasons there to close out his collegiate career.

In 2020, Dawson was named the head coach at Frederick Douglass High School in Memphis, Tennessee. He came to Frederick Douglass after holding the position of defensive coordinator at Liberty Tech High School in Jackson, Tennessee. In 2021, he was a first-year assistant at UT Martin.
