Former Steeler Ryan Shazier endorses Jimmy Garoppolo to Pittsburgh

Everyone seems to have an opinion about who the Pittsburgh Steelers next starting quarterback should be. This includes former Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier. During an interview this week, Shazier talked about who should replace Ben Roethlisberger and he is going with a veteran.

“I think somebody like Jimmy Garoppolo could really help,” Shazier said. “Personally, I don’t think we should draft a quarterback this year.”

Garoppolo is an interesting guy because his career has been so up and down. The San Francisco 49ers spent a first-round pick in 2021 on quarterback Trey Lance leaving Garoppolo in limbo. If the Steelers did want to trade for the Niners signal-caller, it could cost them a first or second-round pick.

Shazier also said if he were the Steelers front office, he would not draft a quarterback this year. The Steelers staff dedicated a great deal of time and energy at the Senior Bowl scouting the top quarterbacks so I wouldn’t rule out a rookie at all.

What do you all think? Should the Steelers make a big trade for Garoppolo like Shazier says or do you want the team to go in another direction? Let us know in the comments below.
