Former All-Star pinpoints Klay Thompson as league’s best hot shooter
Klay Thompson is among the best sharpshooters in the NBA. Since being drafted by the Golden State Warriors in 2011, Thompson has accumulated a 41.6 3-point percentage, primarily as a catch-and-shoot threat. In a movement-heavy offensive system, Thompson has been an ideal member of the Warriors’ offense throughout his 12-year tenure in the league.
During a recent episode of “Gil’s Arena,” Gilbert Arenas was listing the league’s best shooters, based on who has the most dangerous hot streaks. According to the former All-Star guard, Thompson’s ability to hurt teams without the ball and knock down shots without needing to dribble the rock makes him the most fearsome hot streak shooter in the league.
“When hot, I pick Klay,” Arenas said. “Out of the three, it’s hard to control his hot because he doesn’t need the ball. He scored 60-something points with just 11 dribbles. When he gets hot, he’s more dangerous because he’s moving. It’s hard to double someone who is coming off screens.”
In December 2016, Thompson dropped 60 points on the Indiana Pacers with just 11 dribbles. That type of elite shotmaking ensures Thompson remains one of the most feared shooters in the NBA.
Thompson has bounced back from two serious injuries and showed signs of returning to his peak performance level. Thompson will enter his 13th NBA season in October and hopes to help the Warriors win their fifth championship with him in the rotation. Thompson will be in the final year of his current contract and looking to impress Golden State’s front office ahead of fresh negotiations.
