Former Rutgers football offensive lineman Marcus Applefield opens a training facility

Former Rutgers football offensive lineman Marcus Applefield is opening a training facility in Florida. Applefield, who played in the NFL following his college career, made the announcement of his new business venture this week on social media.

Applefield spent five years at Rutgers and then transferred to Virginia for his final season of eligibility. He then spent a couple of seasons in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens.

At Rutgers, he was three times named All-Academic Big Ten.

A member of the 2014 recruiting class, Applefield was a multi-year starter at Rutgers. He was ranked a three-star by Rivals and held Power Five offers that included Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Purdue, Syracuse and Virginia among others.

In his social media post, Applefield announced that the training facility will be in Pasco County, FL. The area is a suburb of Tampa.

His new facility, Prospect Performance, is scheduled to open in September.

“The facility will offer a comprehensive range of amenities including a fully equipped weight room, indoor turf, therapy rooms featuring saunas, ice tubs, and cryotherapy,” Applefield said.

“My ultimate goal is to create a haven for athletes in our community, providing them with an opportunity to develop their skills and attract college recruiters. It will also be a place of training for college and NFL athletes for their offseason training regimen. This expansion will greatly enhance my ability to continue making a positive impact on young athletes’ lives and in the community. I can’t wait to welcome athletes into this state-of-the-art facility and help them reach the next level of their athletic journey.”

Applefield was an undrafted rookie free agent when he signed with the Ravens in 2019. He spent three years in the NFL, all in Baltimore.
