Former North Dakota State University standout played in all four preseason games with the 49ers

SAN FRANCISCO — Undrafted defensive lineman and 2017 Watertown High School graduate Spencer Waege has been waived by the National Football League's San Francisco 49ers.

Waege was one of five players waived on Monday, a day before NFL teams have to finalize their 53-man rosters for the 2023 season.

The 6-foot-5, 295-pound defensive lineman played in all four preseason games with the 49ers was credited with an assisted tackle and a pass defended.

He was a two-time Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) All-American and two-time All-Missouri Valley Football Conference selection at North Dakota State, where he was a three-year starter.

With the Bison, Waege was part of a program that went 78-8 with four national FCS and four MVFC championships. He is tied for sixth in school history with 42 career tackles for a loss.

He signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent after the 2023 NFL Draft.
