Former IU forward Race Thompson missing NBA Summer League with Knicks with sore right knee

LAS VEGAS -- Former Indiana forward Race Thompson did not make the trip to Las Vegas to play with the New York Knicks in NBA Summer League because of a sore right knee and will not be available for the event according to Knicks public relations staff.

Thompson was not taken in the 2023 draft, and his contract with the Knicks was only for the Summer League, so the next step for Thompson's basketball career is not clear.

Thompson averaged 7.7 points and 5.5 rebounds in five seasons with the Hoosiers, including 8.4 points and 5.2 rebounds in 2022-23 and career highs in scoring (11.1 ppg) and rebounding (7.5 rpg) in the 2021-22 season. Thompson took a redshirt in 2017-18 and then missed most of the 2018-19 season with a major concussion, but returned to be an important bench piece for the Hoosiers in 2019-20 and then started all but of the games he appeared in for Indiana in his final three seasons. The multi-dimensional, stat-sheet stuffing Thompson finished his IU career with 997 total points, 718 rebounds, 131 assists, 117 steals and 107 blocks.
