Former Iowa State football star Brock Purdy is NFC's leading Pro Bowl vote-getter at QB

Brock Purdy’s improbable run from Mr. Irrelevant to potential NFL MVP has encountered a new realm.

The San Francisco 49ers quarterback and former Iowa State standout is the leading vote-getter at the position in the NFC for the Pro Bowl, according to voting figures released this week.

The final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, Purdy has taken significant steps in his second season in the NFL while serving as a key figure in the 49ers’ league-best 10-3 record.

Though his production and development have been aided by being on a star-studded offense, his improvement has allowed him to emerge as one of the top contenders for the NFL’s most coveted individual award. Purdy, at +175, is behind only Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, at +150, on BetMGM’s most recent MVP odds.

At Iowa State, Purdy was a two-time, first-team All-Big 12 selection in 2020 and 2021. In his three full years as a starter, the Cyclones went 23-15. In 2020, they won a program-record nine games, capped off by a victory in the Fiesta Bowl.

Brock Purdy 2023 stats

After being unexpectedly thrust into action as a rookie in 2022 following injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo, Purdy has made strides in most major statistical categories.

Through 13 games this season, he has completed 70.2% of his passes for 3,553 yards, 25 touchdowns and seven interceptions while averaging 9.9 yards per attempt.

He ranks third among all qualifying NFL quarterbacks in yardage, second in completion percentage, first in yards per attempt, tied for second in touchdowns, and first in passer rating.
