Former Iowa OL Brandon Scherff one of CBS Sports’ Top 30 NFL players over 30

Making it to the NFL is only the beginning. Sticking around and making a long career out of it is the next step and possibly even harder. With the short career span the NFL averages, reaching 30 years old while still playing deserves kudos of its own.

One of those players in the above-30 club that is still performing at a high level is former Iowa Hawkeyes offensive lineman Brandon Scherff. His performance throughout his career has landed him on CBS Sports’ Top 30 NFL players over 30 list at No. 26. The former first-round pick of the Washington Commanders is now suiting up for the upstart Jacksonville Jaguars.

Scherff has claim to one of the best careers that the Hawkeyes have ever seen. His 2014 saw him named an unanimous consensus All-American, the Outland Trophy winner and the Rimington-Pace Offensive Lineman of the Year for the Big Ten. All while being a team captain.

That performance propelled him to being drafted fifth overall in the 2015 NFL draft. During his time in the NFL, he has earned four trips to the Pro Bowl and one nod to the first-team Associated Press All-Pro Team in 2020.

Scherff now anchors the offensive line for the Jaguars, who are led by one of the fastest-rising quarterbacks in the game in Trevor Lawrence.
