Former Glencoe football coach Lee Ozmint steps down from Arab

Former Glencoe head football coach and current Arab High School head coach Lee Ozmint resigned from his role on Friday.

The Arab City Schools Board of Education met Friday to accept the resignation and released a statement through its attorney.

"I can confirm that Coach Lee Ozmint tendered his resignation to the Arab Board of Education this morning, April 26, 2024, at approximately 8:30 a.m.," the statement read. "The Arab City Board of Education called a special meeting of the Board for April 26, 2024 at 11:00 am, and notice of said meeting was provided pursuant to Alabama Code Section 36-25A-3 at 9:52 am.  At 11:00 am, the Board of Education met and accepted the resignation."

Ozmint has been at Arab since 2019, going 38-18 there in six seasons. In 2023, the Knights went 8-3 and fell in the first round. The Knights are scheduled to kick off the season with Albertville on Aug. 22. They will also play Gadsden area teams: Sardis, Cherokee County, Guntersville and Boaz.

Ozmint coached at Glencoe High School from 2006-15, amassing a 77-37 record and guiding the program to a state semifinal in 2014. Ozmint is a former Alabama football player, playing for the Crimson Tide under Ray Perkins. He was a lawyer in Tuscaloosa and Gadsden before starting coaching at Gadsden High in 2001, according to the Alabama High School History site.
