Former Dolphins and Miami sports stars tee off for great cause
It was a busy weekend for South Florida sports last weekend, and, in addition to all the success local teams are having on the field, it’s no surprise there were wins off the field as well.
Not only are the Florida Panthers and Miami Heat on the cusp in their respective conference finals, but the University of Miami’s basketball programs are also coming off men’s and women’s Final Fours while Florida Atlantic University’s Owls cut down their regional nets as well as those Hurricanes.
One of the staple events in South Florida, returning from a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is the Miami Jewish Health Golf Classic at Normandy Shores Golf Club in Miami Beach. Miami Jewish Health has an 83-year reputation for providing life-enhancing programs and services to seniors in their care.
Last Friday, Hurricane and Dolphins legend Randall “Thrill” Hill teed off along a trio of former Miami defensive backs, Tim McKyer, Darrell Malone and Kerry Glenn. Joining the former Dolphins was ex-Eagles and 49ers fullback Brian O’Neal.
Hill, currently a federal agent and 2016 US House of Representatives candidate, said “The Miami Jewish Health Classic is one of the 305’s most fun and exciting events. Don’t miss it next year!”
Turning up the Heat on the star power, former Miami Heat sharp-shooter, and all-time great, Glen Rice was on hand as well, who not only played but called out names of raffle winners to the delight of the crowd.
Spearheading this year’s event was Miami Jewish Health Foundation executive director Jenny Ray.
“This was made possible because of the extraordinary generosity and loyalty of our donors and supporters,” Ray said.
The golf outing not only raised an event record $265,000, but 136 golfers also participated, which was an event high, with 81 being first-time participants.
“Having been at Miami Jewish Health for more than a decade, we’ve hosted many golf tournaments, and this was our most successful,” Ray added.
The Miami Jewish Health Foundation team that helped organize the event included president and CEO Alison Grewe, director of donor relations Aimee Siegel-Harris and concierge coordinator Leslee Geller.
