Former Chiefs CB Antonio Hamilton signs with Bucs after minicamp tryout

After receiving a veteran tryout at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie minicamp this weekend, former Kansas City Chiefs CB Antonio Hamilton is signing a one-year deal with the team.

Hamilton, 28, joined the Chiefs in 2020 after spending time with the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Giants. He was the first outside free agent that the team signed during the 2020 free agency period. They really liked what he brought to the table as a special teamer and it showed with his usage throughout the season.

Hamilton played few snaps on defense for the Chiefs, even when they had injuries at the cornerback position early in the season. However, Hamilton played the second-most snaps on special teams with 330 snaps on the year. The only player with more special teams snaps was DB Armani Watts.

Tampa Bay is familiar with Hamilton as he played the team twice, both during the regular season and during Super Bowl LV. He’ll be in competition to earn a similar role with the Bucs as he played with the Chiefs in 2020. That is — a reserve cornerback and special teams ace playing multiple spots, but excelling at the gunner position on punt coverage.
