Former Arkansas running back Alex Collins dies at 28

Alex Collins, a former running back with the University of Arkansas, died in a motorcycle accident Sunday at the age of 28.

One of Collins' former NFL teams, the Baltimore Ravens, announced his death on social media Monday evening.

According to the Broward County Sheriff's Office, the crash occurred around 10:20 p.m. Sunday. BSO deputies responded, and the motorcycle driver was pronounced deceased on scene.

Collins attended South Plantation High School in Florida before arriving in Fayetteville, where he ranks second on the career rushing yards (3,703) list, behind Darren McFadden. Collins was the SEC Freshman of the Year in 2013, and he is one of four SEC players to register 1,000 rushing yards in three-straight seasons.

The University of Arkansas posted the following statement to social media Monday night:

"We are so saddened by the sudden and tragic passing of Alex Collins. He was a legendary Razorback and an even better person. His love for the Razorbacks and desire to be a Hog was undeniable. We will miss him greatly. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time."

The Seattle Seahawks selected Collins in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, and Collins spent two stints in Seattle with Baltimore sandwiched in-between during a five-year career. His best season came in 2017, rushing for 973 yards and six touchdowns with the Ravens.

Earlier this year, the Arkansas family also lost Ryan Mallett and Chris Smith.
