Former Americas softball standout Brianna Garcia named Junior College All-American
Former Americas softball player Brianna Garcia was named a first-team All-American in National Junior College Athletic Association Division II by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Friday.
Garcia, who played shortstop for South Mountain Community College in Arizona, hit .442 with 26 doubles, 29 home runs and 98 RBI in 64 games.
South Mountain CC finished the season with a 54-10 record and advanced to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament where the team split four games.
Garcia, who also earned All-Conference and All-Region honors, is the second El Pasoan to earn softball All-American honors this spring. Former Eastlake softball player Kasey Flores was named an All-American in Division II as a member of Lubbock Christian University.
Garcia helped lead Americas High School to the Class 6A state tournament last season where it lost in the state semifinals.
